I've had a local woodworker* build me a 54 styleé body and a one piece neck with stainless frets, custom designed by me headstock shape, clay inlays

You may notice something unusual about the colour, it's all Nuts! Walnut, with a maple skunk stripe.  :bananaguitar:

*For reasons of location this being the Warmoth Unofficial Forum and all, I will not be revealing the name of the GuitarBuild(er) Co. based in the UK.

Surprisingly light i thought, I've recently invested in some accurate kitchen scales,

Neck is 1lb 6.25oz 628grams

Body 5lb 11.5oz 2.592Kg

finish will be tried and tested Tru-Oil. I'm going to wait to see how it turns out before I choose the hardware colour, what type of pickguard, if any.

First coat of Tru-oil on, and it's really bought the grain out on the body.

I take it we all know what Black walnut's latin name 'Juglans Nigra' translates to?

Yeah, Black Walnut. Literally. Juglans is neither generic for a nut that grows on a tree, nor is it latin slang for the body part (and since most of our medical words ARE latin, not just come from it, you wouldn't be shocked at which one it is.) Ironically, that is a neuter noun. Ha ha.)

That's some beautiful lumber, gonna be a beautiful bass. Keep them pictures coming, compliments to the people who made them, unnamed as they are... ???

I don't care I'm still calling it God's Black B*llocks.

There, I said it.  :headbang1:

I was thinking of going for a creamery pickup, https://www.creamery-pickups.co.uk/custom-handwound-pickups-from-the-creamery/scatterwound-bass-pickups.html#P-TELE-BASS52

keeping it simple when it comes to the electronic, no-load tone pot, but no other switches, I'd did think about getting a hum cancelling dual winding version,

with Parallel/series switching, on a push pull volume pot, but I think I'll go trad, with the exception of the wood.

Now, I was thinking of going for gold hardware, but I can't see anyplace to get a gold 51 control plate, or Bridge/pickup covers in Gold, yes I want the covers.

Like this, but in gold:

Unless anyone has any ideas I'll have to go for Chrome/Silver.

Actually I do need to get the decal sorted out, at the moment, I'm looking at Rothko and Frost http://www.rothkoandfrost.com/custom-waterslide-bass-headstock-decal-50s-style/

Walnuts!
Juglans Nigra

Either in Gold or Silver, I need to get this one ordered soonish as I'm doing the Tru-Oil finish,

Maybe get a black bakelite pick guard, the people who built the wood also do scratch guards so I'd probably go for that one, slightly smaller for the '54 rounded body.

Oh, I'm still thinking about the bridge, You can get Squire 2 saddle bridges cheap, It's set up for string through, which is nice.

Or maybe a Babitcz through body one, they're nice, but I'm not sure they'll fit under a bridge cover. Same with the Badass III ones, I shall research further.

Other than the decal, everything will be on hold to next year, as I'm skint. Still it'll give me time to give the neck and body a good load of thin coats.

Talking about which,

You could buy chrome or nickel hardware and find someone to electroplate it for you.
That's what I was thinking. Saw this place on line: http://puregoldplating.co.uk/ They even have some guitar hardware showing on their home page.  :icon_thumright:

:icon_thumright: Intriguing, but I think I'll keep it simple, I'll go for the chrome, it seems to work nicely, here with rosewood, that looks more like Walnut, if you ask me,

Walnut is about the only color where Gold looks truly amazing. Black Korina, White and Black also work. But that's about it.

I'm partial to the chrome on that rosewood, and consequently on the walnut. But then, I've never been much for gold hardware anyway.

And Cagey Green...

I know,  :sad1: I've made an equerry on how much gold electroplating  on control panel and covers will cost.
