Walnut top

I did a search, but really couldn't find any significant discussion on this topic.

Based on my reading, I'm thinking a walnut drop top/carved top on mahogany would be very similar tonally to maple/mahogany, but I'd like to hear from anyone that has
experience with this combination.

Tops add very little to the overall tone (if anything) some say thick carved tops do have some effect, but who knows..
Walnut is pretty bright but maybe not as bright as maple..

From my limited experience with a 1/4" maple carved top of maple on top of a solid mahogany body, there is a very small amount of brightness there, but it really is miniscule. The electronics, the neck and fingerboard do appear to have more say. But a good guitar is the sum of all parts so I wouldn't discount it's effect, just not expect to fix up everything else that might be wrong in a bad situation. :icon_thumright:

very true, the core wood is going to affect tone more than anything. Warmoth tops are only 1/8" thick, so the top is going to be more decorative than anything else. I have a solid walnut body with maple runners in it, and it's very bright, acoustically. But it also has a canary neck, which sonically is also similar to maple... :icon_thumright:

on a les paul, a walnut top will be a bit less bright than a maple top. I still want to try out a walnut top on black korina. that will have huge mids, chunky, tight lows and a sweeter top end, but with just enough bite.

This september, oh yeah baby...

the tops on Warmoth are too thin make any significant impact on tone.

I have two , one with mahagany /koa and one with swamp ash /maple

On my latest project I opted for a swamp ash body and am capping it with my own Koa ..Much prettier and thick enough to add something ( The swamp ash will be chambered)
