Volume knob mistake.

That knob is insanely close to the pup. I'm bummin' for ya, man. As for filling and sanding........do what I did.

I would sell it,the thing is I dont think I would get NEARLY what I put into it.If I could get within reason I might.The axe has high quality components such as a real OFR,Sperzel Locking tuners,Schaller strap locks,etc.....

You could always eBay just the body itself and keep all the hardware/electronics.  :icon_biggrin:

Don't sell it!  Move and plug.  Keep everything as simple and straightforward as it is right now.  No mini switches, no nothing.  Move the offending knob, plug the hole with a liitle piece of dowel, stain it to match, and everytime you look at it, remember that you once learned a lesson about building your own guitar!

The knob is in the normal Strat position, correct?  What if it had two more tone knobs falling right in the nornal locations, would the volume knob still be bothersome, or is it just the fact that it's one knob and so close?  Do other Strat people have the same trouble of the volume knob being too close.

A typical strat does have the same knob placement along with 2 other knobs,but it usually has single coils and the strats that have humbuckers in the bridge dont have pickup rings.There is the problem.Look at some regular strats and you will see what I am talking about.

I don't see why not... go to the plumbing section of a big, real hardware store - not the Ace Hardware, but the weird one where all the contractors go with dusty bins full of stuff - and root around for an "end cap", but also surely check through the dusty bins of electrical parts too. Something will pop up... Honest to Betsy, if you built the thing to PLAY ON it's not going to bother you a bit to have a weird little plug, if you built the thing to HANG ON THE WALL AND ADMIRE ALL DAY, you would've put on a lot more knobs in the first place, right? :icon_scratch: A cabinet pull with a flat head and a shaft the diameter of the hole would lay pretty flat and some of them have decorative, celtic-y patterns...

"What's round, flat and has a 3/8" shaft?" About a billion little doodads, just look around. I would, but it's not my guitar - Id' pick the wrong doodad.... :cool01:

Any chance of getting another knob with the same insert as you have on it now? If you could get the insert out and stick it over the hole, it would cover it perfectly. It would look pretty unobtrusive.

I understand all of that.  But you said it was uncomfortable to play in the original post.  Forget what pickups are in it for a moment.  The relationship of the strings, body, and knob isn't different on the normal strat config. and yours as far as the volume knob placement is concerned.  This is where the comfort would ly, not in what pickup is in it.  If those strats are comfortable and yours isn't, my question is why does the humbucker suddenly make it uncomfortable to play?

Are you kidding me?? The size of the of the pickup is the whole problem,trust me.On a regular strat the knob is not much of an issue because it sits right below a single coil and not a humbucker.I own a 3 sc strat and its not the problem that this guitar is.

I don't know, man, for me even on a regular Strat that volume knob is really in the way. That's why I always remove one of the tone knobs and move everything down. I have big hands though.

I wired my old MIM Strat with master volume and tone. The spot closest to the bridge pickup was then stuffed with a momentary switch that I wired to mute the guitar. Nice and out of the way.

Does it have pickup rings? I doubt that it does.It probably has a pickguard and the knob is still somewhat in the same position as a regular strat,but no way near being the problem that I have.I dont know why you are trying to argue with me,the volume knob on THIS guitar is a pain in the ass for ME!

No biggie.Its a lesson learned.Back in the day I would probably not even had made such a big deal about it,but nowadays with my tastes being so refined and knowing what I want in a guitar and out of it,its a problem.I will fix it and move on.

For those interested....my guitar now has a mole!!! Anyway,I moved the knob and placed a black plug in its place.I also made a couple of electrical changes and all is good.

But I think you should have put a mini toggle switch with the #11 underneath...When people ask what's the #11 switch for you say.."After I turn the knob all the way up to 10, I kick on this switch and it takes it to 11".... :icon_biggrin:

Yeah,I thought about putting a switch,but the fact of the matter is,it would still be in the way..Anyway,lesson learned.I will be coming at you for a special "Texas" style neck plate when I get ready to build a tele.
