I've had some rest last night, but not much - and this is going to turn into a philosophical thread until I belly up to the bench on this one. I've learned a lot about myself and the people on this board over the last 3 months. I've come to terms with my strengths and weaknesses.
You guys are artists - and even the "least" among the posts I've seen here display a certain thoughtfulness to design and aesthetics. I'm the kind of cat that tends to jump in and "figure things out when I get there". This works great for the way I compose music; I literally write and record at the same time, never knowing where the song will take me.
Unfortunately, when you are dealing with parts such as these, you can't take risks like that. Well, I can't take risks like that. I can't punch myself in with this build. I've gotten lucky on a few, but regardless of how circumspect the approach, I always manage to find a way to uncover an issue. Lol, I'm destined to work for UL or the like.
I'm really not beating myself up over here, but I've learned a few things this go round - mock up, mock up, mock up (then purchase). With an angled neck pocket, the middle single coil in my current setup is going to be too low at full extension, for example. ANother thing is that I had this neck designed to work with an Alpine White body. The head stock doesn't really match the current theme. The main thing is not to work on anything unless you are well rested and of sound mind. I think I can still pull off this build, but it's not going to be what I imagined. It'll make a fine studio guitar, however, and I'm going to go forward with the next Strat build wtih vigor because I know all of the pieces play and look nice together.
I appreciate the kind words lol. My fiance's expression when I turned the guitar around was priceless. It was the perfect picture of shock, horror, and disgust - the type of malaise which one would expect when meeting that "shapely" girl on a blind date. Hey, I have a thing for Seafoam and Surf Green haha. Wait till she sees the forthcoming Strat.
