Velocity - Daisy Duke

That's not the way it was just recently explained to me. I was pointed to this page:

http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Bodies/Options/LaminateTop.aspx

I believe you're seeing part of the plain maple slab there.

Yes, you are - you'd see the 'bottom of the top' just the same if it wasn't double-lam because the shape of the carve means the top is thicker at the cutaway - whether it's double-lam or solid.

We're on the same page, I think we're just saying slightly different things

It's just one of those things where you think you understand how something works and then you see how it really does and you're like "huh".

I'm not very familiar with arch top guitars, but of the ones I've seen, I'm more used to seeing something like this:

Imagine if that one had real binding rather than masked - a plastic strip can't just get wider in the cutaway area liked the masked binding does, you'd have to add a 'fillet' like Gibson used to. (Though in this case, as the back has a dark finish, you'd just take that finish up to the binding)

The real reason I was asking to see the side of the guitar was that I wanted to see how the black binding appeared against the black korina back.  The hole double lam thing was just a tangent that ended up taking over :laughing7:

Yeah, you have to watch out for those damn tangents - if you're not careful they can turn into whole new projects.

Hey Doc this one is a Gibson scale. Are some of ytour others the 25' scale and if so is it hard to transition? Also The vener isn't a option in the custom builder. Did you just order over the phone?

Depends on how long your arms are. 25' is quite a stretch for most humans <grin>

Bahahaah I'm massive Cagey, don't mess with me  :laughing3:

25" I mean  :icon_biggrin:

Hehe!  I figured as much.

My collection is about 1/2 and 1/2 now between the two scales, and I don't really notice the transition. But, I also don't play anywhere near as well as I used to. Back when I was extra-hot, it made a lot of difference. But, I also played at much higher speeds and relied pretty heavily on muscle memory. A more deliberate player wouldn't have as much trouble.

Thanks, I was thinking of a mooncaster in my future and it just feels like a gibson scale should be on there for some reason.

Good eye.  Yes, this one is a Gibson scale.  Most of my guitars are standard scale.  It really isn't that hard to transition.  I just have to remember to play the shorter scale ones on occasion so I don't lose the "muscle memory" that goes with the different neck lengths.

Regarding the veneer, either write it in the comments box or call them.  Calling them is usually better because some finishes can't be done on a pegface veneer, like washed black dye...but they can do washed blue dye.  Seriously.

Thanks for the info. My mind is stirring up a new one. Ya that blue is phenomenal. One othe question. When you get the gibson scale there is no little side adjust?? Is that right?

Cagey got your back, at least for the non-angled headstocks, like the standard Strat.  DD has an angled headstock, so regardless of scale length, the truss rod adjustment nut is at the string nut.  There is no side adjuster near the heel.  You probably knew that, but I'm including it to be thorough.
