Guys, something has happened and I'm scared. What do I do?
I'm going to be buying parts for years to come...

haven't even started to plan out my LP yet...

Or you could approach it differently ...

What if a big guitar brand/manufacturer told you "that we can make you your signature dream guitar"?
What would that signature dream guitar of yours be like? Would it be a Tele-ish guitar? A Strat-ish? LP? VIP?

When you know what your dream guitar with none or few compromises should be like you could set out to build that - since that is what Warmoth offers -, instead of five or six others each with compromises.

Just my two cents ...

Yes think different.

Or how about a signature range of guitars with the Spring, summer, Autumn and winter collections.

Actually it's an interesting thing, if you buy a guitar you might spend some time looking for one that it just right and it may be a while till you consider another one.

With assembling or building from parts, you get to take part to a greater or lesser degree in the creative process and the work unless you farm it out.

The truth is if you are somewhat creative and enjoy making  things you might easily come up with several more ideas etc. then you might ever make.  But that also can be part of the fun.

See, that's my problem... I like so many different things that i need multiple designs to satisfy my cravings. I really like messing around with guitar designs, I've been doing it ever since i started playing, I'd look into different things to change a guitar a little bit, take it apart, reassemble it...

Here's a crazy idea--maybe you could actually BUILD something instead of telling us your next six ideas! We've ALL got a million ideas, but thankfully we don't hear about 'em all...  :evil4:

Are you supplying the funds?  :laughing7:

What style of music does your band play?  Build something to fit that tone / image.  Done.

If it were me mind you, I'd build the explorer.

I play in a reggae/classic rock mix band, I play in a punk band, and I play in a metalcore band.
So that doesn't help... haha.

Well, VIP doesn't seem to match that.  Strat kinda does.  Tele no.  But I think it's a win with the explorer.  Just using process of elimination here...

One might argue that it doesn't matter which one you choose, you'll always wonder what the other choices would be like. The greener grass and all that. Add to that, no guitar is perfect, only varying degrees of almost right.

Assuming you'll build just one for now, I would recommend you get to some guitar stores and play an Explorer type, a Strat and a PRS and see how they feel to you. Make sure to try them standing and if you can with the strap you plan to use. Who knows, you may find you hate the Explorer once you're playing one. They look cool, but might not fit you and your style. Same with a Strat and A PRS. I used to have a real lust for Explorers myself until I actually played one. Didn't like it at all. Didn't fit me right. It hung funny and I hated the way it dug into my right rib.

Guitars are a very personal instrument, and since you plan on building one at least, you might as well stack the odds in your favor for the first build and try to come to terms that it won't be perfect, but it will be yours and you get to build more later.

Also, I do not adhere to the philosophy that certain guitars are better for any given type of music than any others. What matters is what feels most right for you. A player might adore Led Zep but can't stand to play a Les Paul for 45 minutes at a stretch. Maybe an SG works better due to it's lighter weight and you can still play Led Zep songs all night and be happy about it.

You can work all sorts of variables to get the tone you want; amp settings, guitar settings, effects, but it's hard to change the way any given instrument feels.

Finally, I understand perfectly the great fun of designing guitars. I got close to a dozen I want to build. Closing in on my first completed build and I can't help thinking about which one will be next. Design all you want. It's fun. They're always perfect until they become real.

This is exactly how I've been thinking.
