There are components on the guitar I think are cool, and I'll admit that, but there are chunks that miss on me. I've never been a big fan of either the 490 or the 498 pickups. If I had to go with Gibon pickups on anything, these would be the last ones I'd grab (wait--forgot that the Dirty Fingers in back in production). Plus, it just seems anti-Gibson, especially with the heavy use of scratchplate, and the fact that the scratchplate holds everything electronically together. To me, it feels like the craftsmanship skills used to put it together don't justify the cost. I know that using the pickguard for the electronics is a long-standing Fender feature, and I don't have any gripe at all about the concept, but we're talking about Gibson here--the arched top, the top-loaded controls....
