Trigger Pulled!

well if a full custom neck + finish takes 8-9 weeks i'd say that a finished showcase neck would take 3-4 weeks. i'm just ballparkin it here

Gotcha, I'll try to be patient :binkybaby:

The last Showcase neck I bought took 6 weeks to get here, but that was during their busier season. Plus, I didn't pay for any kind of special shipping, so it took a full calendar week to get from Washington to Michigan. The last couple bodies took two weeks, again because of a full calendar week on the road. I think standard shipping must be by mule train or something. I buy nearly everything but groceries online, and it's a rare instance where I wait more than three days for anything.

How fitting, I literally just looked at the UPS tracking info on my neck and was wondering why it takes a week to get here (michigan). And why does eevrything sit in Illinois for at least a day? I want it NOW!!!!!

Anywhos... I've ordered one showcase body and two showcase necks in the past month. None of them needed finishes, but each of them took maybe a day less than the max time given in the info Warmoth provides on lead times... A neck needing frets and a nut took four days before it shipped. I can't remember where exactly the lead time info is, but it is on their site.

FWIW - I get bike parts from Australia in the same amount of time it takes to get things from Washington via UPS...

No doubt. I buy computer parts from all over hell's creation and never have to wait long for those, either. The only thing I can figure is Puyallup, WA must be far enough off the beaten path that it takes a day or so to get into the mainstream shipping lanes, then when it finally gets to a major hub/sorting center that adds another day or so before the locals get it to play with. Chicago, IL is one feeding here, and Maumee, OH is another one. Seems like a lot of things get snagged there.

Puyallup is five miles from Tacoma, 20 miles from SeaTac airport, it's on the interstate highway system - there's no excuse related to proximity to major hubs.  Some other monkeybusiness may be at work.

Maybe it has to do with volume. For instance, I know Newegg ships literally thousands of parcels a day from their warehouses, so they have UPS trailers sitting at their docks all day being loaded as orders are filled. They're probably grouped as to destination (presorted), too. They're tied directly into UPS' logistics system, and all that has to happen is for tractors to show up at the end of the day to drag away the trailers to the airport/hub. I'm sure Warmoth does a fair amount of business, but I'm not sure they have a truckload go out every day, let alone several, or enough to justify getting tied directly into UPS' logistics system.

my showcase neck ordered on dec 25th arrived to me on Jan 28th
shipped out jan 21st. (to Indianapolis)
I had W add: frets, nut, finish

The quality is amazing no doubt about that. I should've take bigger frets though, but it doesn't really matter. I was also scared that the neck contour would be a little too fat but it's just right.

There seems to be a layer of yellow (lacquer?) on the frets. That's removable right? Or maybe I ordered gold frets by accident :laughing7:

Anyways I'll be putting it together over the weekend. More pictures to come (and quality pictures please :icon_thumright:)

One question, not sure how the truss rod system is supposed to work. I got the option with the screw on the side of the neck. I guess I set the neck straight with the bottom screw, mount the neck to the body then make further adjustments with the side screw?

I appreciate what he does with those videos, but he really needs an editor.

Aaah!! Thank you sir :occasion14:

I think I'll use steel wool actually because it's not coming off just with my fingernail.

While I myself don't have experience with it, I have heard it being advised against just to play the finish off the frets because of the possibility of chipping the finish off the fretboard too, YMMV.

Any tips on getting the string ferrules in (back)?

I've read on the forums that some people hammer them in but there's NO way I can do that without chipping the finish, it's just way too tight :dontknow: .

i know there's a trick where you can heat them up with a soldering iron but you'll need an explanation of that from someone who actually knows what theyre talking about

I woulda thought this would make for more interference as things usually expand when heated. If anything I'd suggest the opposite, putting them in the reefer might help.  :occasion14:
