I got the G5 bass and gave it one coat of Varathane natural stain, then three coats of Varathane oil based polyurethane gloss.
Well, now I think it looks kinda boring. Could I use a wood toner spray for a darker color or what is a good option?
I always stain first. That said I’ve seen pigmented danish oil so I don’t see why not. The trick would be finding a compatible colorant. Don’t know what though.
PS. Doesn’t look boring to me. Looks natural.
Oxford guitar Supply makes tinted nitro lacquer in Heritage Cherry Red and Vintage Amber and a few other tints. I don't know if they would be compatible with poly though.
