To all the Queensryche fans in the know....

I went to the Rising West show on June 9th... Todd kicks ass... Also went to GT on the following Saturday in Port Townsend, sorry but ain't really got it any more. I am happy to see/hear QR rocking out more like they did in the early days... Just my 2 cents...

Todd really is a breath of fresh air, and the guys are on fire playing the stuff that got them recognized initially.

I'm diggin the demo's that I've heard on Whip's site of stuff he & Rock did that got passed up by Tate.  They've been writing constantly over the years, and Tate kept rejecting their material.  Finally, they had to assume control or go down with the Tate-Ship.

to make a very long story short:

April 14 - Rumors about Geoff Tate Punching some of his bandmates and threatening Scott Rockenfield (the drummer  ) with a knife just before a show in Sao Paulo

Around June 8th - all the other queensryche members do 2 shows with the Crimson Glory singer (who sounds almost the same as GT in the 80s) under the name "Rising West"

a couple of days later - Rising West announced that they are now Queensryche and that Geoff Tate has been fired

some more days later - Geoff Tate tells his side of the story: getting fired was a big surprise and he will try to stop the others to use the name Queensryche, since he (co)wrote most of the songs. he also mentioned that the other members never bothered to bring any new music to the table and agreed with all business decisions made in the past.  On the Brazil incident, he says that he was told just before the show that they fired his wife (Manager of the band), stepdaughter and other family members that were on the Band's Payroll
Just before walking on stage, Scott rockenfield tells him "we just fired your family and you're next!". Geoff loses it and smacks him on the face... not much else to it according to him.

Yesterday - sworn statements of all 3 other members leaked to blabbermouth and pretty much say the same: Geoff has had a bad temper all along and he and his wife were dictators and would not allow any input from the rest of the band musically. Geoff hates their old (Metal) songs and doesn't want to play them ever (Oddly, I complained that most of their shows were "greatest hits" set lists over the last couple of years - how many times did they do Mindcrime and Empire anniversary tours?)
they also claim that GT sold the rights to make a movie about Operation Mindcrime without their approval.
On the Brazil incident: days before that show they called a meeting to which GT couldn't make it. in order to cut cost, they decided to outsource Management,  merchandise and fan club management to a third party, and to fire GT's wife and family because they were too expensive.
While in Brazil, GT asked about what they did and in return they asked him about the movie rights. he walks away and later before the show completely freaks out and chased and hit his bandmates.. during the show he spits on his band mates  and made some more threats

according to their story, GT is a very violent and angry man... which could be true.. the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.. very sad though to see this awesome band end like this.

Not sure when they'll start using this "Rising West" name, but I'm going on the Monsters of Rock Cruise 2013 in March and they are billed as QUEENSRYCHE.  They apparently have Crimson Glory's singer singing for them now.  I checked out some of Crimson Glory's stuff featuring the new singer and while he won't be mistaken for Geoff Tate, he does have quite the range.

From what I understand, Geoff Tate's wife was allocating funds to some band she was managing, or something like that.  Definitely not cool to be funding another project with money belonging to the members of Queensryche.  If this is in fact true, she should have been fired, and as far as Geoff spitting on band members and telling people they suck while on stage, he needed to go, too.  What a jerk...

Rising West was used as a one-off name until Geoff Tate's firing was completed.

Moving Forward, it's Queensryche as always.

Oh, okay.  Have you seen the video of Geoff Tate telling the crowd they suck yet?  Pathetic.

There's way more to it than just that.
Tate and his wife embezzeling funds through QR accounts, all kinds of other corruption.

The links to the court docs tell so much more.

Given the type of QR fan over the years, it was a line that should never have been crossed.  The fan is the ticket buyer, the customer.  It comes off as condescending, poor customer service, and was just one of the many offenses that the consensus band decided would not be tolerated.

Anyway, the new guy is great, has breathed new life into the band, the chemistry is great as they are all writing together as a band again where their previous contributions were all rejected by Tate in favor of a, shall I say, "less than QR heavier prog hard rock sound" so Tate could use outside writers, pay them chump change and not have to share equal percentages of royalties with his band mates.

I am actually starting to lean towards Geoff Tate's side.
It sounds to me that the rest of the band got lazy and just went with the flow a long time ago. I have been a fan for about 25 years and the things I love most about them is the voice and the dual leads . They were more proggy than other metal bands and have written so many classic songs!
I have seen one of my other favorite bands perform with a tribute singer replacement an it was a disaster!

I have seen them play many times over the past years and they always played the hits and lots of the old songs! I did not read anything about the states stealing money, and the 'you suck'  was clearly not meant as an insult.

As a band they seemed to be at that point where the fan base isn't growing or shrinking.  They weren't gaining new ones or losing old ones.  Royalties-wise, their money makers have been written already, especially in an age where money is made by touring and merch sales, so I don't buy the part about outsourcing the writing so the band didn't have to be paid.  I also think band members' family on the business side, no matter how well it works, is a bad idea.  Seems they were just at an impass and outlived their shelf life as a cohesive unit.  There's the bands side and Tate's side, and then there's what really happened.  And the "you suck" thing is a stretch and laughable, not an insult, and headlining a festival is not just QR fans.

I don't think the "you suck" thing is an overly big deal, but it was still in poor taste.  I'm sure Geoff Tate's comment didn't garner them any new fans.

As for Tate's wife embezzling money, that's a whole other animal.  If it's true, she should have been fired, and if Geoff knew about it, he's just as guilty.

...And what about spitting on band mates?  C'mon now, how old is this guy...  :tard:

As for "new" Queensryche, La Torre is a decent vocalist.  I'm interested in seeing which direction they head.  That being said, I can't say I'm an overly big fan of Crimson Glory.  While I think they're okay, I wouldn't be wearing their t-shirts anytime soon.

Talk to any band that's been around 25+ years.  Ask Rush, U2, AC/DC, Metallica, The Eagles, etc. if they've ever spit on been spit on by a band mate.  If they spit on you, spit back.  If they sleep with your girlfriend, sleep with theirs.  Man up and don't whine about it.

it depends on which side of the story you want to believe.. and even if it is somewhere in the middle, I can understand his rage... he was just told his family had been fired and that he would be next....

Sounds like a bs story..."We fired your family and you're next."  Would you continue to sing for a band that just told you that?

...But as you said, it's all who you choose to believe.  Geoff and bis wife were embezzling from the band and they both deserve to be gone.

It seems unlikely that Tate or anyone else will be looking for action here in our little backwater of the internet, but y'all should recognize that whatever allegations are being repeated here could be actionable until and unless it's determined to be true in court.

It'd be a shame to risk the existence of this forum over rumor and allegations that might induce the Tate family's lawyer to write a cease-and-desist letter to Warmoth, or worse yet, sue them.  The whole "we're not responsible for content users post" defense might not stand up well when a Warmoth employee actively moderates this forum.  And it'd cost a lot to find out.  Maybe more than Warmoth thinks it's worth.

Yours very truly,

Bagman, Esq.

What were they embezzling??

They were embezzling from the band and financing a project his wife is working on.

where did you read that???

Dude, I've read that on numerous sources.  They're saying that's the reason his family and him were fired.  Whether it's true, who knows (and who cares...).  That's just the rumor that's been circulating.

Whatever the case, it sucks, but I look forward to hearing some new Queensryche and Geoff Tate material.

I read a lot about this but never came across this accusation..
