These forums have come up quite a bit as I started looking at building a guitar, so now that I’m actually in the process of that I figured it was time to join.

It’ll be a Strat build.

I have an old cheap no name strat that I’ve been playing and since I’ve started playing electric a lot more I wanted to upgrade it, then I started thinking about building something, so now I’m in the process of upgrading everything on the existing strat and eventually will get the body and neck so eventually every single part will be new. (I’m calling it my “Strat of Theseus” project, since the old strat will go back together and serve as a backup/starter guitar if the kids want to start learning electric)

I’ll write up an in-progress post with the current parts list and progress later tonight.

Great way to learn. That's how I got into building them, tore down an old Squier Strat and replaced everything but the body, then discovered Warmoth and the real fun began ! You'll love it.

Yeah, I’ve always been hands on, mod it kind of guy. Started in cars, and since I’m a musician it was only a matter of time before it transitioned to guitars (I changed the pickups in one of my basses a long time ago and eventually when I had a second one I ripped the frets off the first just for fun. )

Since it’s not about the market value for me I’d rather build something myself with great parts than pay market price for something. I don’t intend to ever sell the thing so the “partscaster aren’t worth the sum of their parts” issue doesn’t effect me at all.
