I dunno how many of you all remember a kick-ass show 'back in the day': Baa Baa Black Sheep?
If you're bored or interested, Google: Gregory "Pappy" Boyington.
I grew up on that shit, as did alot of us kids. Anyways, back in November when I finally finished
my guitar, I called Mr. Patrick Sims ( http://www.simscustomshop.com ) to tell him to take a look
at the finished project on-line. We got to talking and he told me he'd been inspired to do another WWII
warbird scheme, this time of a Vought F4-U Corsair. He went all out on the 'rivets' aspect. From his email:
"Eric,
Here's a sneak peak of the Corsair guitar I've been working on. Has over 500 brass rivets in it....hand drilled each hole
(took about 25 hours)...it's not completely finished, but getting close, just thought I'd send u a pic. I have invested
ALOT of time in it & need to sell it when it's finished, let me know if you know anyone who would be interested. Its a
1 piece alder body...cnc'd to exact Ibanez specs....riveted on sides & back as well.
Patrick"
Cagey and D6 showed me some WWII themed Schecters and other brands on my build thread when it
was on-going. One thing I noted was that (IMHO of course) peeps went waaay overboard on the rivets.
I mean dont get me wrong, rivets are found everywhere on warbirds, but the bodies I was seeing had faux
rivets like every 1/4 of an inch everywhere it seemed. Patricks look badass for two reasons, 1. They're
real; 2. they're small. It gives a very nice illusion of realism paint by itself would be hard pressed to match!
