The Shredowhawk

One thing I need to figure out - I have a cosmo black neck plate and matching screws coming in, but this is both contoured heel AND scallop which means I’ll definitely end up through the fretboard without an alternate plan. I’d like to keep the screws matching, was thinking about just taking a cutoff wheel to em.

I give you permission.

I touched her scallop, and death smiled. Sorry, that was a misquote it is actually "I touched her thigh, and death smiled"-Jim Morrison

Just wear a face shield ! I was nearly killed by an exploding cut off wheel and now I’m a’scared of em……😧

But yes, I do that to screws all the time.

Well, I hope I gave Lollar a chuckle. I asked them to suggest a humbucker sized pickup that would get me in the ballpark of the YJM Fury pickups, and to their credit they actually answered thoughtfully.

They suggested that their “The Bird” pickups, which are HB sized Firebird pickups, would be the closest thing, and that the El Rayos would lack the pick attack despite being designed to be more single coil in character.

That’s the last piece of the puzzle, and I think the no-hole black chrome covers will look awesome on this minimalist Viking themed thing. Besides, BIRD? MeadowHAWK?

(I know a Meadowhawk is a dragonfly, just go with it)

Very cool! I have a set of the Lollar Firebird pickups in my Diamondback (standard size). I love Lollar! Actually just received today a DB Humbucker for my spalted maple Floyd Strat build. Can't wait to try it out! 👊
Ooh I'd like to hear what you think of the DB once you get it in there

Great build. I've got a similar sort of idea in the works. Walnut HS Musiclander body with a Purpleheard Meadowhawk neck with a crazy grainy piece of Kingwood for the full scalloped fretboard. 24.75" scale length and all cosmo black hardware. I love the Ibanez Tight End bridge and have one of those, basically a beefy smooth version of a flat mount Strat bridge. Just a volume knob and a 3 way blade switch.... no tone knob needed. Dimarzio Imperium bridge and Chopper neck. I'm going to sand the body down to have a bit of an Ibanez JS airfoil shape on the top half... Lighten it up a bit and round it off in my own way. The body is on its way actually. Can't wait to see the neck.

Man.... they keep getting me with the new offerings. I built up a hardtail strat with a full rosewood scalloped neck (24.75" too as I love short scale guitars) and I just love that thing. The Satin OD Green prompted me to jump onto that idea. There comes a critical mass of possible ideas for me and I just POP and have to get a build going. This one was the Meadowhawk neck, always wanting to do someone with Purplheart and seeing a plain Walnut Mustang (with an Aluminum neck) in some picture.... one thing leeds to another.

Good luck with your build !!

Those sound awesome! I’ve considered a purple heart neck, would look awesome against a cream body or a full wood build.

Never played a scalloped board, sounds like you’re into them?
