This federal emergency is way overreported... from the article...

The U.S. government declared a public health emergency -- a step Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said "sounds more severe than really it is."

"This is standard operating procedure and allows us to free up federal state and local agencies and their resources for prevention and mitigation," she said.

And

At a White House news conference Sunday, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said the emergency declaration is standard procedure -- citing that one was declared for the inauguration and for recent flooding.

I really feel like this is the "SARS" scare all over again, where this horrible pandemic was supposed to happen and never really did...

I think the SARS coronavirus had a mortality rate of 9.6%, so it was quite deadly.

Rep. Bachmann is the gift that keeps on giving.  Having read this board's rules I'll have to refrain from further comments on the link quoted above other than noting the author notes that her facts are wrong as usual and, well, I'd rather not be banned illustrating the importance of using Google, Wiki and http://thomas.loc.gov/ when it comes to things people say when they're betting we won't take the time to do our own fact checking... which is the rule verses the exception.

But... the reason I posted in this thread is to say my wife's hospital in Dallas confirmed 3 cases today in their ED. So, if I don't post about my new Strat build when it all arrives next week I guess yall will know she brought it home from work and killed us all. lol

Like during normal flu season just wash your hands and avoid putting them in your mouth as well as being around anyone sick. Those masks you see do nothing other than make it harder to put your hands in your mouth and give you a false sense of security as a respirator is the only thing that will stop airborne/droplets. It is CERTAIN if you can avoid emergency room visit DO IT because yall know how long the wait is and you know ERs are packed with people seeking treatment and not preventative care because that's the idiocy of our health system. At least all signs are that we are keeping on top of it coordinating with the CDC and thus far America seems to not be seeing the fatalities in Mexico.

VP Biden has a history of "foot-in-mouth disease". Bless his heart he just can't help it. While he's usually right on his point when he makes a gaff it's how he words things and, it seems, duckspeaks a little (talks without thinking) is where he becomes Classic Biden. He's simply a gaff machine, the fleas come with the dog, but his positives are what made him VP despite chronic foot-in-mouth disease.

People who have seen him for years, like myself, knew what he meant despite what he said.  :laughing8: I've been known to do the same thing... maybe it's ADD or something. lol

Compared to Michael Steele, Joe Biden is a model of discretion and reason. I was on the subway yesterday and the woman right next to me was coughing and hacking up a disgusting mess. Honestly Biden has a point.

It turns out this flu is a genetic composite of human, swine, and avian flu.  It is no more deadly than the "usual" flu.  It is however a new strain that hasn't been seen before.  WHO no longer calls it "swine flu."  It is now "2009 H1N1 Influenza."

It seems that some countries like Egypt were to slaughter all the pigs in their country to eliminate potential reservoirs.  WHO did it to protect the pigs.

Also, Muslim countries and Israel were protesting the name "swine flu."

I guess the "swine" makes it "unclean," as opposed to the usual "clean" variety of the flu.

I'm confused by something.  If one's hope is to increase anti-bodies in their immune system, isolation makes you more vulnerable.  A few years ago, I worked at Children's Hospital in Dallas during the fall and winter - cold and flu season.  I made it a point to walk through the emergency room once a day.  Guess what?  Never got so much as a sniffle that year.  Could be a fluke thing because there was no control for that experiment, but I think my exposure to germs, bacteria, and viruses helped me stay well that year.  If I avoided groups of people and was hold up in my house, I would've gotten sick easily with the first exposure at a mall, school, or church.  Maybe, maybe not.

Biden is a goofball but he's right... a bus/train is a great place to catch a cold.  He'd know, after all, he took the damn train eight times a day or whatever it was he kept saying :p
