Tele Bomb!!!!!!!

That came out beautiful.
It's a nice shade of burst, not too red.

dang. that subtle burst along with the thin black binding gives it class. Playing that thing in anything less than a suit would definitely be a capitol offense.

Here is a shot with the tape pulled off the sides so we can see how the burst color looks with the back. They look real nice together.

Understatement of the year :laughing7:

I received the neck for this baby yesterday and I would say the Black Dog chose well.  :icon_thumright:

Please burst the headstock to match!!!  :icon_thumright:

Too funny  :laughing7:
That is the first thing that popped into my head when I first saw the body and neck together.
Tonar and I were just discussing the same thing.  He is going to give it a shot [or should I say burst] and I think it should look sweet...

that's definitely the first thing that came to my mind.

if only he could get black binding on the headstock too.. that'd be too good. Fender headstocks can't have binding or something though, right?

yeah, W won't do it. I've seen it done by folks, and done well, too, but it is a finnicky job.

I'm getting this thing ready to burst the headstock so here some pictures of the steps.
Here is the front and the back of the headstock out of the box.

Here is the back of the headstock after I have re-profiled it and taken the sharp edges off.  I usually do this on the front also but since this is getting bursted I only rolled the edges on the front slightly so that it will be a littler easier to wet sand with out burning a corner but I still have real clean lines.

I use 1/4" tape to tape off the nut so it will be protected from finish.

All ready to shoot.

Here it is with the first wash coat of lacquer, one more and I'll start filling it with clear paste filler.  The back of this neck will be getting a hand rubbed oil finish so only the headstock is getting lacquer.

That's something a lot of guitar makers need to learn, SHARP EDGES don't belong on a neck... :toothy12:

I bursted the headstock today so I pulled out the airbrush for this one since it has to be such a narrow line.  I generally use the airbrush to do small repairs but it will work perfect for this.

You see how fine a spray this it shooting and I'm focusing on the very edge of the headstock. Note that over spray on the masking pager is already darker than the headstock.
IMG_7916.jpg

Burst completed and ready to have the tape pulled and the edges clean sanded so I have a sharp line.
IMG_7924.jpg

First coat of clear to melt it all together.  This is a little redder than the face of the guitar but it is a different type of wood.

Here it is with the body. The body has been wet sanded so it looks dull but that will change after it gets the final polish. What do you think of the bursted headstock?
