Hello,
Some of you may have noticed my avatar pic and maybe thought "Isn't that a Telecaster control plate? He doesn't seem like a telly guy, he's so nice. And cool!"
True, I was never really interested in Telecasters. I mean, I respected them, kinda liked the aesthetics, but I never wanted to have one.
That changed, maybe because of Aarons telly-related videos, or because I recently became a father and now I feel old enou... ah... I mean mature enough (
) to play a telly... maybe a bit of both, I'm not sure. But I like them now and that scared me a little. Well, they say you should face your fears and so I did!
First of all: No, I didn't misspell Telecaster in the titel. "Teile" is german for "parts", so a partscaster in german is a "Teilecaster". I read that somewhere years ago and always found it hilarious.
The Teilecaster
I thought a lot about the specs, missed some nice Telecaster bodys in the showcase, because I was thinking too long, but then, about 10 weeks ago, I saw them: Telecaster Replacement bodys, swamp ash, "Multi-Piece for Solid Colors", full contours, standard top rout (but with universal tele neck pickup), $155.00 each!
I chose the lightest of the bunch and ordered it to be painted in spectra blue, 'cos I love metallics and I don't have a blue guitar yet.
I also ordered a neck. I didn't think about neck dive when I ordered it, but for some reason I thought this guitar needs a really thick neck, so it'll have a fatback profile with 1.650" nut width. Premium Azurite Malachite dots to (hopefully) go with the paintjob.

From Warmoth I also ordered a neckplate and pad, screws for contured heel, Gotoh vintage tuners and vintage "In-Tune" bridge, string ferrules, all in chrome/nickel, and a blue shell pickguard!
Everything else I ordered at Rockinger:
Rockinger is making really good sounding, inexpensive pickups. I went for the "Telly Rhythm" and the slightly hotter wound "Telly Twister Bridge", both classic Alnico 5 singlecoils. They come in those wooden boxes!
Rockinger also makes pre-wired control plates and wiring kits, I chose the latter because I want a - please don't hit me - reversed control plate and they don't offer that. I know, for some of you this is blasphemy, but so is a contoured telly body, right? I'm a lost cause.
I spend yesterday afternoon soldering that together. It's a classic three way wiring with 250k pots, but with a 22nF tone cap and a treble bleed.
Another non-standard item I bought was that fancy looking "Göldo String Three".
And I bought a black/white/black telly pickguard in case I don't like the blue shell, I hope they line up! And in case I like neither of them: I have a "vintage white" pickguard blank, maybe I try to make on with the cnc.
Now I have to wait for the neck and body. When I ordered them, lead times for "in stock body adding paint/finish" were 12-14 weeks, right now it says 10-12. Ick bin jespannt wie'n Flitzebogen! That is Berlin dialect for "I'm as taut as a bowstring". I'm really excited!
