Well so I am doing my second build  :hello2: this one might take a little while. I'm getting the money together for it as I go. I ordered up a neck. A roasted maple, macassar ebony fretboard, warhead headstock and SS6115 frets. No inlays. Gonna be a bit before I get that I imagine but it is ordered! I am also going for black hardware. I got a Schaller Vintage Tremelo in black coming. So for the body. I am tossing ideas around but was thinking something like this.

or this

I looked at it with a black pickguard but everyone uses that with black hardware.

Then there is always this  :laughing3:

The pickups I got have parchment covers and figured I would keep them. I will post pics of parts as they come in.

For parchment covered pickups and that combination with black hardware possibly the tortoiseshell.

Just checking you know the Scaller Vintage Trems need Floyd Rose spaced posts ?

Which nut are you going for on the nice sounding neck you ordered ?

I do really like the tortoise shell. Ya I need Floyd spaced post but non recessed, non angled I believe. Warmoth wants me to send my bridge in when I get it so they can make sure they are doing it right, but after waiting so long to get it from Germany I feel reluctant to put it back in the mail . I decided to go with a LSR roller nut. I think I am going to runs some thick strings like 12's and thought it would handle it well with trem action.

I'd be interested to see how Warmoth do it. Once they have done it once they should be able to offer it as an option.

It should be fairly stable with an LSR.

12s that's heavy. The heaviest I use is 9 - 46 but it's a personal thing...

Stability is always nice in life  :laughing7:

Ya they said worst case they would have to do a custom route for a charge. We will see. I just like the look of that tremolo so we shall see how it goes.

I played D'Addario EJ21's for a while, probably going back soon. I like the fact that they STAY PUT. Unless you REALLY MEAN IT. It's a stylistic change in playing though, but I've also found that as a reformed SRV wannabe, bends can be a little like Wah pedals and extended solos. Just shut up and play the danged song.  All your tricks and nifty doodads probably don't sound half as cool as you think they do.

Ha to true! I know, I really just need to practice a lot! I don't mind the thicker strings coming from playing acoustic only, although it is true I am going for an SRV tone. I figure I will just set it up somewhere close and continue down the road of practice and maybe one day I might be descent  :icon_biggrin: mostly though I will just try to enjoy the process. I am really enjoying the aspect of putting together a guitar any way I please!

Should be fine. If that's the bridge I'm thinking of, it'll fit a top-mount Floyd route. I've got two of them here, and there was nothing custom about them.

I'm curious where you got a black one, though.

Well I was going to go with vintage copper but they don't sell jack plates. I wrote them but their English isn't the best. From what they said is I could ship them a plate and they might be able to redo it in vintage copper. As is it is taking 4 weeks to get here. So I went with Black hardware.

I will post a pick when I get it in about 1 to 2 weeks. Cagey, you just had them do a floyd spacing, no top route and no angled route?

No angled neck pocket, no top route. Actually, it really looks like a typical Wilkinson or Fender AmStd route/drill, but the holes for the mounting stud bushings are spaced slightly wider.

The bridge itself is fairly short; it's not like you need to compensate for a lotta buildup down there like you might for a regular Floyd or a TOM.

It's really a very nice bridge. I think you'll be pleased with it. I'd use them almost exclusively if they were easier to get.

I know when they sent me the first email about what I would need to do to get a jack in the finish I want I wasn't sure if I understood them correctly.  So I sent a email to clarify and no response. It already takes 3 to 4 weeks to get parts from them. Then add time to send them a part and finish it on top of that, I was like that will be 2 and a half months.

Can't deny that they look like quality parts though!

Yeah, it's definitely nice stuff. I just wish they'd run their manufacturing and distribution a bit differently. Marketing and Engineering seem to have their ducks in a row. May be a bit too ambitious, based on their ability to produce and deliver.

After a suggestion of a cream pearloid pickguard I did some play with mock ups. I got these two for the ones I like.

In the builder the first one is called vintage pearl. I am really liking that one.

I don't know about you, but I'm finding it tough to settle on a pickguard for a tobacco burst. I have one here just rotting waiting for me to finish it off, and as close as I've gotten is a plain cream 'guard. It's weird. It's like nothing works with it.

It is true. I love the finish and just keep going back and forth on the pickguard. It wasn't as hard of a choice on my last one.

Single-ply parchment FTW (IMHO):

Sure, it ain't technically a traditional tobacco burst.  But close enough for me.

I agree; that's probably as good as it gets. And at least on that one, it's pretty good. Nice piece.
