Strings for fretless bass

Hey, gang -

My son is playing upright bass in his middle school jazz band, and to facilitate practice at home, since the budget won't stand $100/month to rent or $1000+ to buy, we've acquired a cheapy Squier P-bass and stuck a Squier fretless neck on it. The Squier came with the world's lightest bass strings (understandable, since it's marketed to beginners), and I'm contemplating stringing it with something that will have a little more beef. I reckon flat-wounds/half-rounds would more closely approximate the feel of the strings on the shared instrument he plays at school; but that's about where my clued-in-ness runs out. I am not and have never been mistaken for a bassist, my occasional noodlings notwithstanding; so I turn to you, my fellow forumites, to bestow your wise counsel regarding bass strings upon me.

Thanks in advance -

Rotosound Tru Bass 88 Nylon tapewound.
To quote Rotosound "Tru Bass strings may be the nearest you will ever get to a double bass tone from an electric bass".
It is more or less true!
Other tapewound strings are available.
