I don't know. As I said, I've "heard" that the string spacing is adjustable. I do not have first-hand experience with it.

All this talk about string spacing has got me a little concerned. I have a Warmoth guitar with the Vintage Strat flat mount, and also that has two Duncan Gibson spaced humbuckers in it. And yes, I've always been bothered by the visible difference between string spacing and width across the pole pieces. The strings from E to E measure 2-5/32" across, while the pole pieces, from center to center across measure 1-15/16". That's only 7/64" difference, but it looks bad. I'm wondering how much effect this is having on sound quality. To me the guitar sounds fine, but I suspect I'm missing a little of both highs and lows. But how much? The width of the magnetic fields from the pole pieces surely make up for some of the difference, don't you think? Maybe I'll have to look at more Fender-spaced pickups or a narrower bridge for my next build. For now, I'm chalking this issue up to "good enough for rock and roll".

The great Wylee knows all. He has a crystal ball err a crystal panel  that he stares into and lets him know all sorts of things.

If it sounds fine, it is fine. People did this for years before F spaced humbuckers and such came out. It's not going to explode or have completely silent E strings.

If the look bothers you, that's one thing. If you could point out precisely what was wrong with your sound, that'd be different as well. But personally I wouldn't worry about it either.

Wylee is a forum moderator (is that the correct term?) If anyone does something inappropriate, he stalks them to a dark corner of cyberspace, kicks the cyber snot out of them and tells them not to come back.  :icon_jokercolor: (not really. He's very nice. just don't be an idiot.)

shamelessly copied from the bareknuckles website FAQ (http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/faq.php):

Spacing refers to the distance from E pole to E pole on the bridge pickup of a humbucker equipped guitar. Standard spacing, usual with fixed Gibson style bridges is 50mm(it's actually 49.4mm on BKPs as per the original Gibson PAF but is rounded up to 50mm in the industry). Wide or F(Fender) spacing is typical of trem equipped guitars and is 53mm as per original Fender spacing. The majority of Gibson guitars are standard spaced although they have occasionally used a wide spaced bridge on some SG and Flying Vee series. PRS, despite fitting standard spaced humbuckers as stock are actually wide spaced on their trem equipped guitars.Neck pickups are always standard spacing. If in doubt...get the ruler out!

In other words, if you have a Gibson TOM bridge, you are ok to use the Gibson pickups.  If you have a vibrato bridge (including Floyd Rose) then you are better off using something else that is F-spaced.  Though the Gibson's will still work more or less ok - as mentioned earlier - a whole bunch of people do just that, including Van Halen on his frankenstein strats...  Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio and pretty much every other shop out there make F-spaced humbuckers which match the vintage Gibson specifications.  Should be very easy to find some.

Good luck.
