Strat saddles screws - too short w/ Jumbo Frets?

Hi all,

First time using this forum, as I just got my first warmoth strat neck for my American Standard Strat (2014).

My neck has jumbo frets (which I love!), which are higher than my stock frets. The problem is that I have 100% maxed out some of the saddle screws just to get the high E and B strings to 4/64 in. For the high E, the saddle actually fell over when I accidentally over-screwed it. I guess the higher frets are raising everything else, but I'm still surprised. Is this common, or am I missing another important adjustment? I'm surprised that the screws can't handle 4/64, which is the lower end of stock measurements....

The neck has no shim or tilt. Neck relief measures at 0.012" at 8th fret.

Do I need longer screws, different saddles, or what?

Thanks,
Trevor

First thing I would do is remove the neck and measure the depth of the neck pocket. For a Warmoth neck the pocket should be 5/8 of an inch deep. With 3/8 from the body to the fretboard surface when the neck is mounted. If the pocket isn't deep enough the neck will sit too high. The neck at the heel should be 1 inch thick from bottom to top of fretboard................... :headbang:

In addition to what Phil mentioned you might need a shim towards the front of the pocket. But also check the neck is properly seated, is there any excess paint or something that may be stopping it sitting correctly if so scrape it away.

If the neck seats in the pocket right and you just need a bit of extra saddle height you could just get some longer saddle (set) screws either online or at a good hardware store.  Just don't overdo it!
