Stingray-style Z bass

Dyeing is done. I applied a second coat with a lighter blue and a black burst. The burst turned out a bit heavy, so I applied a third coat reducing the burst again. It's now very subtle and I'm generally happy how it turned out. Now waiting for the TruOil to arrive.

Meanwhile at the neck: Goncalo Alvez with Macassar Ebony fretboard and pearl dot inlays. I don't like lacquered necks so I just wet sanded to 2000 grit and applied two coats of shellac. Feels awesome! BML tuners already installed.

Why did you shellac the Concalo Alves neck ?  :icon_scratch:

Much better RAW  :icon_thumright:

Concalo Alves dosen't need a finish on it. http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/Necks/BassNeckWoods.aspx

Just needs this, to make it amazing .... http://unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=19901.0

Sorry, got confused there for a second. I considered shellac, but for exactly the reasons you mentioned I put it back in the cupboard. I applied two coats of linseed oil after wet sanding.

Cheers,
Ralf

So I've been spending the week dyeing, filling, finishing and of course sanding the body. Final coat of TruOil applied yesterday, pics show the result. There are a few runs at the sides but overall I'm very happy how it turned out. Already quite shiny even if the final polish is not yet done. Now waiting for the finish to dry for final polish.

Meanwhile my hardware and electronics order has arrived.
*twiddles his thumbs*
*looks at watch*
Oh, the waiting...
