Star project/tru-oil'd mahogany neck

What's with all the hate? Gibson's been painting mahogany since Christ was a grasshopper. Ain't no thang. Let the man have his way.
So true, but as of the last several years I've been anti paint. Too often beautiful pieces of wood get covered up by some joker with a can of krylon(not saying James is)...But as I stated, while being a nice piece of mahogany, it's not an exceptional one, it's his guitar, his decision... :dontknow:

I hate to see a fine piece of wood covered up, too. But, not everybody appreciates wood grain. For example, my current roommate is decidedly anti-wood. All the furniture here is glass, steel, and leather that's either black, chrome, or clear (glass). Even the artwork is all black and white, and the walls and ceiling are painted white. It's tastefully done and he has a lotta money in it, but the place is about as warm-looking and inviting as northern Manitoba <grin>

I'm at the point that bare wood mahogany looks boring and plain, don't care for the natural color. It's not like it's a nice piece of flame maple, or ash, or say black korina. It's just not for everybody.

There, I said it.

Don't sweat it. Some people love wood grain so much, they'll even leave pine natural. It doesn't get much more pedestrian than that. Others don't appreciate wood at all. For instance, I have a chest of drawers here someone gave me for nothing that has curly (flamed) maple drawer fronts and top/sides because they thought it looked bad. There's just no accounting for taste.
