SS6100 Fretwire any good?

Thank you for the kind words.

Is stealing/substituting parts a real issue? I've not heard that before, but nothing surprises me any more. Regardless, it's true that stuff is safe here. No wife/kids/pets/parties and this is a very good neighborhood. Still, I guard people's stuff like it's mine, and I'm armed and heartless <grin>

Around here you pay for CTS pots. You change the pickguard later and find miniature pots. You don't notice (unless you're me) because everything is always on 10. It's not uncommon here. If they aren't ripping you off by taking/swapping parts, they're ripping you off by taking way too much money. For example, a friend of mine swapped out his old BKPs with a set of Lollar Imperials. He went to get his guitar and asked why he didn't get the old pickups back. Guy was like "You have to pay extra for that. Part of my fee is keeping the old parts." Most guys around here are a [expletive deleted]ing joke. Or at the most benign, they do things to your guitar that you didn't ask for/want done. End of tirade.

Point being, Cagey's a boss. Who doesn't love OCD level neat-and-tidy wiring?
Anyone taking my old parts, especially something along the quality of BKPs, would face some serious argument. I would hate to have to suggest my .45 could factor into the equation.

Yeah. To me, unless it's clearly spelled out in a contract somewhere, that's just plain old theft through intimidation.

No. It's distracting. Reminds me of a cheesy ill-considered banner ad. But, unless anybody else complains, I wouldn't worry about it. I've blocked images from you, so I'm good. Downside is, I may not see anything else you post, which isn't good for either of us. You often have good things to show, and I'd hate to miss them.

I've never understood the urge to display what amounts to web pages in signatures. It's supposed to be a signature, not a billboard. You put something there that uniquely identifies you so people know who's talking without having to read all the details surrounding a post. it shouldn't be an assault on people's senses, or cause them to develop carpal tunnel syndrome while scrolling for an hour and a half to get past some massive block of text and/or graphics to get to the next message.

I considered blocking his images too - that flame koa just makes me envious.

You don't believe it? I'm not running Windows or OS/X. I have options. Although, actually, anybody who runs Firefox has the same options. Just install Adblock+ and NoScript and you can filter out any images that you don't want to see, as well as a wide variety of other undesirable garbage.

Slower is much better  :icon_thumright:
You can go into your own profile and block all signatures, then can still see what people post.

If you so desire  :dontknow:

:icon_scratch:  It's not as if he's flashing different pic's of his arse or anything not worthy of showing  :icon_biggrin:

True enough. But you may not want to block all signatures just to filter out a few you can't live with. Sigs can be useful for quick identification. On the boards I've run, there was a policy members had to adhere to, and if anybody got crazy, you could restrict privileges. Worked out well.

These are the frets I have on my very first build. Add me to the +1 for Cagey Club, he does great work.

Personally, I think breaking strings has more to do with poor technique than anything else. I think outside of my beginner days 18 years ago, I've broken one string and that was because it wasn't wound around the ball end properly.

I applaud those that have beautiful guitars to place in their signatures (if they aren't very tall)... especially if they're not the winning guitar!

Semi-on-topic: I have SS6150 & SS6105 frets on my guitars and love them.  I can't really discern a difference between them (they also have different back profiles).
SS6100 is close to both of them.  Go for it!

Those things have got to be disgusting, and within a hair's breadth of breaking. Lemme ask you this: how often do you brush your teeth? <grin>
Twice a day.

Actually, I can't recall the last time I had a string break on me other than on my stainless-fretted Warmoth and on a guitar that used to have a Stetsbar bridge (''genius'' design, putting all the strain of the vibrato on the weakest part of the string. In fact that didn't just break strings, it ripped itself out of the guitar). My other, regular-fretted Warmoths have never had a string break (even after one was dropped out of a sixth story window, all the strings were intact at least - though that's a story for another day).

Which is why I say, I can see the benefit of stainless but they're just not for me and I'm loathe to suggest them for absolutely everybody. Some people can't get on with compensated nuts, some people don't like hum-cancelling single coils; sometimes the older ways are the best ways for certain people.

I suspect you may be suffering from a belief in a logical fallacy called "post hoc ergo prompter hoc". That is "after this, then because of this". In other words, you're confusing cause and effect, assigning blame to the wrong thing.

I remember 100 years ago when I first started playing guitar, broken strings were a way of life. Now, that could be because back then I didn't play the best of instruments, or it could be that they didn't make strings as consistently or of as high a quality as they do today. Don't know, don't care. Water under the bridge. As life goes on, I can count on one hand how many times I've broken strings in the last 15 years or so, and I not only beat on the little rascals, I'm a big fan of distant bends and wild vibrato. String quality and life expectancy have improved to the point where they sell the things in hermetically sealed packages so they don't rot to shit before you get a chance to use them.

So, I wouldn't be so quick to blame stainless frets for a freak string break. It happens. Especially if you leave strings on longer than a squirrel's life expectancy. I also wouldn't blame that Stetsbar bridge. I'm no fan of the design for several reasons, but the bridge actually moved rather than dragging the strings across the saddles, so it's unlikely it would contribute to early string failure.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to convince you to do something you don't want to. If you like dead, worn out, grotesque strings, that's fine. I don't care if you ever change your strings again until pigs fly. I just don't want anybody getting the wrong idea about stainless frets.

Ok, THAT is funny.  Bordering on batsh*t insane.  I mean that in the best way possible.  Signatures on message boards have contained graphics since the 14.4 modem went out of popular usage.  Hate on floyds all you want, but there was a line you need to find your way bak onto the other side of, sir!

Just because something is commonly done doesn't make it right. Look at crack, Facebook, 2nd mortgages or watching American Idol <grin>

Besides, I think you misunderstand my pique. I don't object to his graphic sig, That's been fine all along, and showed off some exemplary work and good taste in guitar design. What drives me nuts is the seizure-inducing blink. I'm a dinosaur. My vision is based on movement. I can't read when there's something demanding my attention by moving or shape-shifting.

I didn't see it until it was set to 10 second changes, so I was really just messing with you.  I know what it's like to get a bee in a bonnet.  As it stands, it doesn't bother me.

I don't think so, Tim

I have stainless on one neck and will get them on any other new necks I buy. I just got a neck off ebay that half scalloped with 6100s, and I love it. I wish they were SS.

Opera has built in blocking. Globally, or on a site by site basis.

It also allows you to disable animated images (including on a site by site basis), if you desired this for some reason.  :icon_biggrin:

There is a Linux version available as well:
