So I searched, and answered all my questions except one, what is "SS" stamped on the butt of the heel? is Short Scale? if so is it 24" or 24.75? The neck is not mine "yet" so I can't just measure it.

634 is a production number - which means it was a build to order neck.
SS is short scale.I too am unclear on whether this is a 24" scale neck, or a 24.75" scale neck for a 7/8ths body. If I had to guess, I'd guess the former, but I'm sure someone who knows will be along shortly.

The post by Knorris doesn't identify himself, but his location is Puyallup,WA. If you look through his 23 or so posts they're generally things like "we will, we used to" followed by all sorts of inside knowledge.  According to Knorris, SS is Short Scale.

KNorris is a Warmoth employee, I am not sure if he still is but he will know. If he said SS is Short Scale it is.

Do you have any other photos of the neck such as front view etc, how many frets does it have.

I do see sharp corners on the fret board ends. I think Aaron mentioned something about that in the conversion neck video
It's at 4:33

Ginder use the search function and KNorris' post will pop up and use the search term ss.  Also, did the seller measure it for you?

SS stamped on the butt end of the heel of the neck means it's a Gibson Scale Conversion, which will convert a 25-1/2" scale body to 24-3/4" scale.

If the SS is written on the flat side of the heel in ink with a fret size after (ie SS6150), that means Stainless Steel frets.

I don't think this is of any help to your question but where I'm from (Germany), SS is that one combination of letters you wanna avoid by all means... no kidding, you can't even use it on license plates.

FYI, KNorris isn't just a Warmoth employee....he is the Warmoth employee. He has been here longer than anyone else, and knows everything about everything. If he says it, it is so.

Wolff05 is another longtime Warmoth employee, and knows of what she speaks.

I play in a Scorpions tribute band named Second Sting, and I often abbreviate the name as SS. Since the Scorps are from Hannover I've often wondered how verboten it would be to do that in Deutschland.

If we ever play the Rhineland I'll have to be careful!

Klaus would definitely be raising his eyebrows for a second when hearing there's a Scorpions tribute called SS haha. But then again, he's been abroad long enough knowing that other countries are not that sensitive to what is merely an abbreviation. I guess Germans will just need a few more decades to finally accept that previous generations have been wrong all along attributing SS to Schutzstaffel - everyone should just accept that it stands for Stainless Steel. But in all seriousness, Germans (like my mom) still get very weirded out when they see the Slayer logo, because the font of the S is the one from the old SS logo...

In any case, say hi when you're in the Rhineland - it's where I was born and we're actually the only Germans with a sense of humor. It's sad cause it's true haha

A ha, he does not post much but when he does he is on the money...

I think  SS in the context of German history really is not yet history totally. There are still many of us in this part of the world who had older relatives embroiled one way or the other in that unfortunate conflict. The letters themselves are letters of course but with the zigzag style letters that is something else.

Anyway rock on.

All I know is that you avatar grindliner, is hilarious. Benny Hill was the man.. :icon_thumright:
