Spokewheel on a Warmoth neck?

Has anyone tried it?
I know Stew Mac sells them, but I'm curious if anyone has tried to modify their Warmoth neck to include one to make the adjustments more easily accessible such as the EVH, some Jacksons, & some ESP's.

My concern there is that you're moving the neck pickup even closer to the bridge.  The side adjust mechanism on the Pro Construction seems like a better solution.

Actually, on a 22 fret neck with the overhand, ala ESP or Charvel, the spoke is under the 22nd fret overhang, and therefore the moving of the neck pickup closer to the bridge is not an issue.

The neck in the picture above just doesn't have the overhang as it is only a 21 fret neck, so the pickup position appears to have been moved when it actually has not been moved.

I agree, I've seen this done way better than that picture.

That's a 22 fret neck in that picture by the way ;)

I have one on my EBMM Morse. Really easy to adjust.

As a mod to an existing neck I'm not sure it would be an easy thing. The vintage construction for example has a heel adjust. But would the thread of the truss rod match that of the spoke wheel is one thing to consider. The other would be that the channel would need to be wider possibly to accommodate the spoke wheel as well as a notch needed.

It would be a nice option if Warmoth offered it.

Yup, I'm sure a proper jig would be in order, knowing in advance that it voids warranty.  I know the StewMac sells http://www.stewmac.com/Materials_and_Supplies/Truss_Rods/Adjustable_Truss_Rods/Spoke_Nut_Hot_Rod_Truss_Rod.html is a 1 1/8" x 1/2", with a 1032" thread.

it would be a nice option to the vintage or modern necks.

I hate to take a neck off to adjust it.  However one a modern neck is set, it usually does not move and the side adjuster is more than enough for adjustments.

TFS, were you thinking of swapping out the rod too ?

No, I was interested in replacing the existing Fender Style Truss Rod Nut with the Spoke Wheel.
I know that both of the ones that Stew Mac sells are a 10/32"thread.

The part that I am unclear of is the threading for the Warmoth ones.

I would only take on this type of modification if the Spoke Wheel were a direct fit with regards to the threading, knowing that if it is, then a jig would need to be made to give it this final outcome.

I think that Strat projects could benefit from this with regard to the pickguard issues involved with accessing the adjustment.

@TFS, understood. I'm not sure what the thread size is on a Warmoth truss rod.

If it was the same in addition to the wide slot for the spoke wheel you may have to widen underneath the board the truss rod channel to accommodate the barrel of the spoke wheel. Perhaps that could be done with a drill jig. oh and a neck you don't mind experimenting on.

Warmoth's "Broach" Double Expanding Truss Rod is 9/32", so it looks like a "no go". http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar-Double-Expanding-Truss-Rod-P85C46.aspx

The "Acorn is 5/16" which is the same as 10/32", so it might work, with the appropriate jigged modification  http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar-Double-Expanding-Truss-Rod-P85C46.aspx

I would think that the best jig application would be with a dremel and precision base for better detail and accuracy.

If you go ahead with this, be sure to post some pics. A dremel and a base could be a good solution.

This raises some really good points and indeed is a project worth watching. The taking the neck off business to adjust a heel located truss rod adjuster is one thing I completely agree with Cagey about as being a thing where there are other better options for at this point. I know to each their own though. I have two top adjust necks and one Warmoth Pro with the side micro adjust. BTW TonyFlyingSquirrel, I was super impressed with the tele you did with the buckskin. Really incredible.

Thank you for the kind words.

Well, so far, the only option that I see that this could remotely work with is the Warmoth Pro, but I'd prefer sans the side adjust.

Potential Workaround? = Get a lefthand reverse strat neck, no side dots, not nut install.  Do the Spokewheel mod, install my own Luminlay Side dots, install my own Tusq XL nut, continue setup treatment from there.
