Not sure about anyone else...

I love the smell of new gear. as in, the actual fragrance. my orange rockerverb is 6 months old now and i still find myself switching it on and then giving the tolex a good sniff  :tard:

a little bizarre i know.

i bought an esp explorer a few years ago, and the case had a certain smell to it that was just beautiful. it just smelt like money and niceness.

oh and btw, im not relating new-gear smell to new-CAR smell. i work as a car-importer, and extensive studies have shown that the "new car smell" that everybody loves is actually toxic fumes given off by the glue under the upholstery.

come to think of it, it's probably no difference with amps  :icon_tongue:

im off to give the orange a wiff.....

Maybe I need to buy myself an Orange rockerverb just to experience the smell.  :laughing7:

When I got my warmoth parts, I loved the smell of the walnut and rosewood. I also likes the peanut-y smell of the tung oil, then I learnt that tung oil is toxic and wasn't quite sure if smelling it was wise.  :icon_scratch:

Apart from computers, most new stuff smells great.

my warmoth tele deluxe body smelled (still does a little) GREAT when i got it. i had them paint it, and either the lake placid blue or the clear coat was awesome... i'm sure i lost a brain cell or two smelling it out of the box, but it's not like the paint was wet or i was smelling paint thinner or something  :icon_biggrin:

My Ampeg is 6 months old and still makes the truck smell like Tolex.  My Carvin heads blow air back to front, so if you get close, you can smell the hot plastic.  Yeah it's great.  Never noticed an odor from the Warmoths.  Guitars I'd finished years ago still smell like they were finished yesterday.

Brand New lacquered quitars have a great smell.  Well, great to me.  All lacquery and woody.....heaven.  About twenty years ago I had the good fortune to acquire in one year a Taylor acoustic, a Rickenbacker, and an ES 335--each brand new--and my brother and I still talk about how great the music room used to smell from all those new guitars.

And for amps, back then I still had my tweed Gibson amps from the 50's.  They smelled like electricity, old wires, and hot dust.  A different kind of smell but equally cool.

Wenge smells rather interesting, however my favorite new gear smell comes from an american tele. I'm not sure what it is, but it smells fantastic.

I remember when I first took the chassis out of my 72 Bassman head (i picked it up cheap because it had some faults).  The smell was amazing.  It just smelled of 'old'.  Love it.  I have to say, I do go and give it a sniff every now and again.  Love it!

I love the smell of hot tubes!
For me I smell strings and fretboards, that's where the magic happens.

RIGHTINTHEFACE, If you ever want to unload that ESP, just let me know and I'll come running!

My '65 Bassman smells like a library.  My bass amp smells like contact cleaner.  My pedals smell like feet.

Rusty acoustic strings have a distinct smell.

You know what smells gross?  A new hard case.  I don't know why, but they always smell like chemicals and playdough.  It's probably all they glue they use to put the fuzzy liner in.

I bought a new case from evilBay once and it smelled like a cat marked it and it was left out in the sun.

Put a new rosewood neck in a new hardcase for a week then take a deep breath. I got a bit lightheaded, but that awesome wood smell mixed in with the new case smell and... Ahh...

My strat case has a very distinct scent, but it used to be a lot stronger.  My bass player used to make me shut it during practice because he could smell it while playing.  I love it now, it reminds me of when I first started to play.
My V case also has a strong odor.  Both scents get me going for playing when I open the cases.

The smell of a new case takes months to fade, especially if it spends most of its time closed.  If weather permits, leave the case open in the sun.

I hate an especially bad musty case.  Especially when it contaminates the guitar, and then gets on your hands.....headphones....shirt.

You should all read the Chuck Palahniuk book "Choke".  For those of you who may have already read it, remember what Ida always said about "new car smells" and the like.  I'm just saying...
