Let me be clear, I'm excited of the work of Warmoth team.
All perfect, all wonderful.
But, if I can afford, (hoping that someone in the Warmoth team read this message), why don't put few strat body (top rout) with **side jack** in showcase finished bodies?
Like Tom Anderson, like any '80 schecter strat  :hello2:
And still some nice finished neck in bird's eye (or flame) without dot (only side dot)?
Ok... ok, I could order a particular body/neck of course,  but it would be nice not having to wait.
See and buy.
I don't think that it's a great sacrifice for the warnoth team

And I say, why not just rout the SHAPE of the guitar?
Let the buyer choose top/rear, puppy choice, heel pocket shape, ect.

The only reason I would think of as to why they don't do this, is that the bodies in the showcase are simply rejects from other customers. Not that it's a bad thing... I enjoy a large selection of those bodies

This is completely false.  The vast, vast majority of the items in the Showcase are first run product, made specifically for the Showcase.  There are a handful of returns and a few factory 2nds, but those are very limited in number.

Alright. I learned something new today. Like I stated, it was simply an uneducated guess. Since we're on the topic, I'm curious as to how you decide what to make for the showcase. Do you go off of custom orders? If x% of people like a tobacco burst strat, we build z amount?

I would have to imagine that with necks as an example, if someone was ordering a Wizard profile neck or another profile that is not used often, when a customer orders one, Warmoth will run a couple extras.  It's a more economical to program/manufacture the CNC machine and run 5 necks than it would be to program it every time for every different neck.

Why wouldn't they simply save the program file? Then it comes down to opening a file, and setting your 0's.

At least, that's how it goes at night when I dream of Warmoths....

They would.  But every machine takes time to set up before you run it.  If you do that before you run every single neck, you make spend more time and make less money(per piece).  It's fine for really crazy custom spec'd stuff, but if it is something that is somewhat common, you run several pieces, that then go in the showcase where someone will buy it.  Probably sooner rather than later.

Not to mention, new programs take extensive testing. I crashed into the tailstock of a $3/4 mil lathe once. Due to an error of 0.012"  Took the machine offline for a day (lost product),  idled two guys, occupied a lot more in the repairs, and made a lot of people really unhappy. And the problem? Some designer changed the rule on a part that my program was based on.

The way they determine what to make for the showcase is simple, whatever sells the best, gets produced the most.  If half of their sales were flying V's, the Flying V showcase would equal the strat showcase
