Christmas came early...

I took pictures on my camera but managed to forget my camera cable. So until I get off work you guys can wait for a bit and deal with phone pics  :icon_tongue:

That's an awesome chunk o' lumber.  (That's what she said.)

Seriously, nice.

What does it say to me that I'm more excited by the idea of an ash SG than I am about that admittedly bad-ass figured maple top, though?

Okay, got the cable, And Bagman, I'm pretty excited about it as well, I've never owned an ash guitar... Ever. haha

Are you putting the jack in the side, instead of the top?  Photo doesn't show a jack hole, so I figured that was what you're up to.

What's the planned color scheme?  I'm sure you've told us in other threads, but hey, who can remember amid all the traffic concerning poly-finished wenge necks and former art majors?

Despite EVERYONE I know telling me I should cover the ash sides and back, I'm more than likely going to do a washed black on the maple and clear gloss the whole thing allowing the ash and the black to contrast.

yep, It's gonna be a side jack  :icon_thumright:

Sounds pretty sexxxy to me.  And as for what everyone else says, I'm sure I'll get some support for this from the crowd when I say:

It's YOUR guitar, make it the way YOU want it.  That's why we're all HERE instead of at a F*nder fanboy forum.

peace

nice chuck of wood

really nice choice to keep the back in Ash

I love ash by the way

I would do a dark finish that still showed the grain on the back, but that is my opinion. What ever you do, that Axe is going look good.

I have a thing for mahogany but then when I'm at my amp I brighten things up a bit. So maybe with this I can back off of the bright knob/treble... But I still haven't decided what I'm doing for a neck for this one.

What's pricing like on that? I was thinking perhaps a solid rosewood neck.. Fatback.  :toothy12:
Thing is, I just don't have a clue what to do... I've always been a mahogany/mahogany/rosewood guy. This ash thing is new to me.
occasionally I'll go with maple necks.

But ash?  :icon_scratch:

But I want to expand my horizons.

Awesome guitar, can't wait to see how it turns out.

One thing to keep in mind with the neck is not to choose an overly heavy wood, with the thin body profile of SG they get neck heavy very easily.. and that probably applies even more with an ash body which is usually lighter than mahogany

Korina neck would probably be best in that respect, as I believe it is the lightest wood for suitable for neck stock. It would look good against the clear coated ash too.

i love warmoth's SG's with top and body woods. it's so cool how the body wood can be seen from the front in the contours of the body, and this is a great example. badass guitar! can't wait to see what this one turns into

Thanks, No it's a black dye. I mixed it kinda weak (trying to accomplish a washed black).
I put a second coat on a little while ago and removed the tape around the edges and I got some bleed-through (pictured). Anyone know of any good ways/products to prevent this in the future?
I'm sure it will sand right out. So I guess we'll see how that goes.

More eye candy.
