SG anyone?

Thanks, No it's a black dye. I mixed it kinda weak (trying to accomplish a washed black).
I put a second coat on a little while ago and removed the tape around the edges and I got some bleed-through (pictured). Anyone know of any good ways/products to prevent this in the future?
I'm sure it will sand right out. So I guess we'll see how that goes.

More eye candy.
Looks good, try a better quality tape and make sure you smooth down the edges of the tape with a pencil or exacto knife handle...

i was wondering if there would be any bleeding with the tape. i've seen some people use a small tape for the detailed edges, then use a larger painter's tape to mask off the larger areas. either way hopefully that'll be easy to sand out. this thing looks killer!

Thanks guys, I sanded the dye back and mixed a stronger solution, after reading Dmraco's post and looking at the body more and more, I did feel like it kinda had a blue/purple tint. so I'm gonna re-tape and re apply the dye.

sorry... :toothy11:

I love the washed black looking.  I am looking forward to this.

What color hardware?

Warmoth will only dye almost to the tape line because of the under-tape bleed that naturally occurs. Then we'll hit the remaining exposed wood with a dark spray transparent color for a tiny burst-in that leaves a clean line at the tape edge.

Gregg, If I may ask, What kind/brand of dyes does warmoth use? I'm not sure I'm feeling this one.

No, no, no, no! I'm glad you pointed it out before I started the poly.  :icon_thumright:

All black! and maybe a white or black/white pickup. Dunno on that one yet.

Oh, colored frets would be so awesome. Think of it... a completely black guitar with red binding, red hardware, red frets and red pups :headbang1: *didn't want to make people go off-topic here*

But, seriously, that guitar is cool, and it will be really cool with black hw, really stealthy. I also like the effect of the bare ash as a binding. :rock-on:
Chrome would work too, but the guitar would look really different. I don't know why, though, but I think I'd have dyed the maple red, not black, but that's just my personal flavor.
Black is always successful, anyhow. :eek:ccasion14:

Dang that's a good idea. I never even though about that haha.

I used the same tape as you, and had almost no bleeding!... I did rub the edges down though, like doug mentioned...

Huh, that's cool. I doubt I'll be doing any finishing of my own any time soon, but that's good info to have.

Okay, so the bleed through was worse than I thought... Lame. In an effort to not take off too much wood sanding I decided to just dye the whole body black... So I sanded down as much as I could, remixed the dye, and reapplied the dye... Here's the product.

PS ignore the sanded bridge studs.. Black paint works  miracles.  :glasses9:

if you were way more ballsy than i am you could tape off a very thin line, paint it black (instead of dye, which can bleed) and it would create a sort of binding / pin striping between the two woods. it look awesome as it is though. i'd love to see the back now if you've got a picture

I've never been too big of a fan of mixing dyes and paint in that way, I seldom like bursts of any kind. I'm weird...  :tard: I'll get a pic though.
