Sarah Ryan inspired Fender XII and Jazz Bass

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

More news - slowly tweaking the truss rod - the neck is approaching normal relief (which for me means dead straight).

Plays really really well.  Has great tone acoustically and electric.  The paint has not affected the tone at all - at least that's what my ears tell me.

Figured out a solution for the G string - just put some more winds on the post to bring it down a bit.

Now the next challenge - find a case for it!

That's sweet except that cheap looking bright white pickguard.  Your builds and restores are always incredible.

Still not digging the white guard, but I really love this build. I agree, coolest of 2010.

I second this too

i pretty much reiterate all of which has been said previously

Thanks folks!

All comments about the "cheap white pick guard" have been duly noted.  Even the very small ones.  :icon_jokercolor:

While there are probably better choices, I find the white pickguard perfectly acceptable. This build is nothing less than a piece of art. I like it a lot.

White pickguards on black bodies always match up nicely. What doesn't match up is flowers, at least for me. I'd be repainting the thing. But, that's just my personal taste - doesn't mean a thing. It's the same thing that makes one guy wear an outfit like this in public, and makes another guy laugh at him.

The guy wearing the outfit thinks he looks good, and in fact has invested quite a bit of money into looking that way. The guy laughing at him thinks the guy wearing the outfit is nuts. Who's right?

It takes a man very secure with himself to play a guitar like that. ;) Seriously though it looks great. I also have a small problem with the pickguard, but I'm not at all sure what would look better. Maybe parchment? Aged white knobs? Not sure. It does look amazing though. Where's the bass? Did I miss that part?

I'm actually wondering what it would look like if I took some steel wool to the pickguard to dull it down a bit.

Oh - the bass is not done yet.  It's still being played "in the white" (don't worry - there's a coat of sealer on it)

I don't think it's the gloss that's bothering people as much as the white, but if it was me, I'd just leave it alone.

it)

I think perhaps 0000 wool could be ok, but keep the white, you would have 2 works changing it: one to change and one to change back :)

I actually wonder if a pearloid black might not be the perfect thing? That's a job for "photochop Max" for sure.

I don't understand all this angst about a white pickguard on a black body. It goes together so well and has been done so many times, it's practically iconic. There's even a slang term for it: Tuxedo Strat. Even Fender offers that combination, and we all know how imaginative they are.

I don't mind the white.. cream could look slightly better though..  don't think any type of pearl/shell would look good

also.... floyd it!!!  :headbang1: :icon_tongue:

I think what bugs me is that it's aesthetically "out of place" with the colors and textures of the rest of the guitar.  If it were me, I'd coffee-age and (I can't believe I'm saying this) relic that pickguard.  Honestly, I'd first probably just get an off-white or cream guard.  Cream might be the best solution if you hate fake-aging as much as I do.
