RSA red trans bass with PF neck

I prefer the SS over the gold because it ties the posts and screws together. Now, if you had gold screws and posts gold would be the hot ticket.

This is looking fabulous.

The combination of the red with the RSA and black similar to Rgands JazzMaster build looks great. The Pau Ferro neck knocks it out of the park.

Id love to make an S type in a similar vein when funds allow.

Thank you!

Well, Cagey is going to do the gold EVO fretwire.

Not sure if i want to match the gold with pickguard screws yet.  Might try it.  Or black.  Maybe closed pickup covers.  Cheap cosmetic issues...

Good grief, that neck is really something special! Great match with the body too. Can't wait to see it all together!

Not sure if the gold knobs are too much...

Maybe just all black...  Funny how changing a couple little things really affects the whole aesthetic.

They're too much.  I'd go with black screws, too, and just let the gold frets have their day in the sun without any other folderol.

I also agree. The black works better. It lets your eye appreciate that beautiful body wood.

Yup, it's unanimous.  Me too.  I was just playing around, and thought maybe...

Thanks, guys.

Funny thing, my favorite strings are DR legend flatwounds, and the silk is gold.

Well, I've taken it as far as I can for now.  Sorry for the bad lighting on the pics.  I work in my basement with a couple of task lights.

Electronics are installed, using my "patented" quick connectors.

Bridge shipped with chrome screws?  I don't know why, but I've ordered black bridge screws.  Can't be sure they will work until they get here, as I can't get exact ones.  Also ordered some black pickup screws and covers with no holes.  I'm not sure the covers will work as the jazz bass pickup middle 4 poles are a little proud of the cover.  Well, I think pickups are supposed to show their poles, anyway.

Neck plate set in place with stainless screws.  Unfortunately, those have to stay stainless.  Doug's fantatastic work.

Waiting on a neck now!  A couple spots of chrome, those toggle switches, will stay chrome.  I believe they do manufacture black ones, but I'm not messing with it.  I'm not sure how they are wired into the electronics board, they might be directly attached.

Thanks, man.

Cagey just sent me some update photos on the neck!  That's one shiny fretboard!  Nice work!

Wow.

I really think black is the right choice for these.

I've searched a number of times for black and gold machine screws for the neck attachment, but no joy. I think it's because they're stainless. Can't anodize them, and paint doesn't stick worth a damn. But, they have the typical satin finish stainless usually does, so even with black or gold neckplates they just make for a nice accent rather than stand out like chrome would.

It's all good, man.  I knew that the inserts had to use stainless screws.  It works.  It kinda says you've gone the extra mile to use inserts.

Coming along great! You and Kevin are both doing a bang-up job. :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

Do the screws have to be stainless?  Because there are plain steel black-oxide finish oval-head screws available all over the place.

Um, I don't know the size of the screws, actually.  Hm...

Cagey?  Do you use 8-32 screws?  1-3/4" long?

I'm not sure about the length, but I know for a fact he uses 8-32 machine screws with the inserts. I believe for a standard neck pocket the length would be 1 3/4", but he'll know for sure.
