Retrofit Custom Inlays to already Scalloped Neck?

and I am wondering if a (fully scalloped) neck has already been crafted, if it is possible to go back and add custom inlays to the fingerboard.

It is a LOT of work... I saw a luthier doing it (her husband is a friend, I ordered the first guitar he was paid to do) and, well, she is japanese... So, pretty much asian level of work...
