heres just a few phone pics on my work so far
double f-hole alder/alder thinline.
sprayed about 9 thin coats satin black enamel car paint, polished with 1200 sandpaper wet with methylated spirits. came up almost looking like ebony (i didn't grain fill). i'm super happy with the black, i will get some good closeups later. it seriously looks like oiled ebony or something, as the fine alder grain shows through a little.
the white "binding" i attempted to mask off and spray gloss white. unfortunately the actual masking process was a total bastard. masking tape+razor blade+many hours. i did the fholes with one or two coats, then took off the tape. the white was real shabby so i have hand-painted them and touched up the edges with a razor blade. came up looking pretty good i must say.
the perimeter binding i did a little differently: instead of masking etc etc, i cut a very fine line with a razor blade along the edge of the alder cap (on the sides) and just guessed the top. lucky i have steady hands :dontknow: no close up pics yet, as the perimeter binding is still rather shabby (hasn't been touched up with the razor). um. anyone who is thinking of following suit and PAINTING their binding like i have.... well.... just know that i spent the better part of a day just holding a razor blade :tard: verrrrrrrrry time consuming. but hey, i wanted binded f-holes :evil4: :evil4: :evil4:
tomorrow it should be finished and ready for a few coats of clear satin acrylic. JB and 59 ready for installation. i have actually sprayed the pickups with gloss white, so now they are zebra instead of plain black, to go with the black/white theme. chrome hardware incl. TOM/stop, two volumes, 3 way switch, and killswitch. still waiting for my showcase rosewood/macassar ebony neck: block inlays, gotoh tuners, 6130 frets. planning on painting the pegface to match the body (not the neckback, i'm not THAT sacriligious!!!)
hope you guys like it!!! :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7: :blob7:
p.s. that blue thing underneath the body is a piece of soft foam from an old camping mattress. and as you can see, i take very good care of my guitar work desk :tard:
