Some of you may have seen Tonar's work on the paint thus far on this guitar but I wanted to create an actual build thread for it.

To start this a a guitar that I had finished in 1998 or so, it is a flat top strat shape, alder body and beautiful quilted top, fixed bridge single humbucker guitar.

As you can see Tonar's work speaks for itself, simply stunning and I can't wait to see it with a million coats of clear and buffed!

The neck...

22 fret Padauk with ebony fret board, tilt back explorer type headstock with a heal adjust truss road, this is a vintage Warmoth neck, absolutely straight and solid.

Plans for the neck, I have ordered some gold Gotoh 18:1 locking tuners, it has a graphtech nut that was set up previously. Tonight I did my first inlay!

Compass rose, mother of pearl, ebony and holly. Made by Lee Henson of

I had him make the inlay at exactly 1" diameter so that I can just use a forsner bit to recess it.

Rest of the plans for the guitar -

Hipshot gold fixed bridge

Dimarzio Fred humbucker

Push Push Volume knob to split coil

Tone knob

Q-parts gold knob with purple jem top

Gold football plate and switchcraft jack

Doug's custom plate in Gold, compass rose "Purple Phase" (reminds me I have to order that)

Bob

While I am patiently waiting for my body back from Tonar(AKA pulling my hair out) I decided to work on my logo on the headstock. I first tried a gold decal, made it way to big and ended up taking it off. Next I made a stencil and try my hand at some gold leaf. I think I love it! going to let it dry over night and hit it wish some shellac and then top it with some gloss lacquer after a few days. I plan on leaving the grain open.

Thanks, its been in a box for 20 years. I sanded the headstock down after I put in the inlay. The rest of the neck I sanded lightly to burnish it some, still have 800-2000 grit to go.

It was the best playing neck I ever played out of the box. 1 3/4 nut and 6150 frets.

I LOVE the headstock logo, very cool!! How did you make the compass rose looking thing? Is it an inlay or something on the surface?

I had the inlay made in a 1 inch circle. All I had to do was drill a 1 inch hole and set it.

He can design about any inlay and laser cut it.

A big update! I got my body back from Tonar, all I can say is he did an amazing job, I couldn't be happier with it!

I got a bit impatient and didn't take any right out of the box photos and just started to work.

Hipshot bridge fit nice, I had to open up the two E string holes slightly to line up.

Dimarzio Fred pick-up in cream. Not sure if it will get wood mounted on a cream ring.Look at that shine!

Gold Gotoh locking 18:1 tuners, mother of pearl, ebony and holly compass rose inlay, gold leaf logo and about 6 coats of gloss nitrocellulose lacquer

I will try to take more pictures as I put Purple Phaze together

That is a beautiful piece of work! The knobs are a subtle but tasty touch, and the overall simplicity combined with the superior dressing make the whole thing a great realization of a fine design.
