That would be "Public Service Announcement about the Carved Top LP" for those of you not in the know.

Heard from somebody (who I'm sure we've all spoken to before) on the phone today while calling and asking dumb questions that if I wanted to custom order a carved top LP body I'd better do so soon. Apparently the big W won't be making them for too much longer. I'm thinking a situation similar to the Wolfgang? Wouldn't give me details, but said, "It's not our decision."

Make those orders!

If it is indeed for the reasons implied perchance it can be saved by body alterations similar to the VIP.  Single cut bodies are sold by almost every manufacturer.

Maybe Trevor will finally get his wish for a starcaster. I wish i were in a position to go ahead and order some just in case pieces, but I'll just have to build my own hollowed out 335.

Just hope the ATF doesnt team up with the Gibson/EBMM/Ric lawyers or they have to stop selling body blanks, claiming a body blank is 'constructive possession' of an unlicensed body shape.

So... does this mean all the Gibson-esque designs are going away?  No more SG, Firebird, Explorer, LPS, L5S, Flying V, or LP & SG basses?  What about the headstock shapes?

I wouldn't have really missed any of them too much, but now I want one of all of them!

This is bad news indeed. I had at least 3 CT LPs planned. I would really rather not get a set neck one. And anyway, Gibson doesn't make the instruments I want.

Hopefully a few little changes can be made a la VIP, and we can go on making singlecut bolt-ons. Same goes for the other Gibson shapes.

I think it just means all of your LP needs will be flat tops in the future.

This seriously sucks.  If Gibson is being whiny little b*tches, then I hope they sink and never return.  That's like half of the Warmoth product line gone.

I still want a Warmoth SG, flat top LP, LPS, and an L5S, and I was thinking about a brown-to-clear LP much later down the road.  But and can't afford another project for at least a year, so I'm screwed.

Please someone from W tell us what is going on and whether or not they're all going away!

I actually really wanted a flat top LP... why would they still be able to do a ft and not a ct?

If it's all Gibson-based designs, then yes it is a huge chunk of their product line.

Speculating wildly here, but so is everyone else:

It could be about scarcity of lumber in dimensions sufficient to do the carved top LP's at a cost that Warmoth is willing to bear.  Which would be expected to jeopardize the VIP's and CT-telecasters, as well, if it is indeed the driving concern.

Just a thought.  Figured wood's not getting any cheaper.

I also thought that both Gibson and Fender only protected their headstock shapes.. I thought the famous lawsuit models were all about the open book headstocks?

Anyway, I would love to see Warmoth's own take on an LP model, like they did with the PRS..
I love some LP Copies way more than the real thing. the Aria Pro II had nice lines!

I hope that's the reason.  That's much better than losing all of those other body styles.

Probably anyone that wants a Gibson LP with a carved top wouldn't even consider a flat top bolt-on neck'd one.  If W starts selling the hell out of P-90'd LP Juniors, Gibson might tighten the reigns on those too.
