As far as I'm concerned, Bill Frisell can do no wrong.  His East/West live album is a joy to listen to, with all his virtuosity and bizarre sonic choices on display.  The band's cover of "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" is brilliant, with the long introduction concealing the melody until the big reveal, when  you hear BF turn up the volume knob and really bear down on it.  His relationship to the beat is an extremely elastic one, and it's fun to hear where he eventually decides to come down - and it's always a decision.  The intentionality of his playing is one of the things I enjoy the most.  It often sounds like a discovery, but it's a discovery based in a concerted train of thought that takes him to whatever new thing he finds.

And don't even get me started on "Good Dog, Happy Man."

So thanks for this, is my point, I guess.

Home sick today. Started writing out a song I learned (this is the year of learning Dylan songs) and, I've got this non-Dylan song looping in the background ... it's about a guy who for some reason was discouraged, beaten down maybe, acknowledges he makes the same mistakes over and over ... but his partner, probably a girl, pulls him up, mends his heart, she's so pretty that he falls upon his knees and he's inspired thru grace to be a better person and has courage to carry on ... fight to keep the fire burning in the night. They started out as church group. I guess this is for anyone whose had a beautiful butterfly in their lives.
