Post what you're listening to!

Dunno how long this video link will stay live, but anyway:

Jimmy Herring's current outfit, The 5 of 7, played Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday night and the show was simulcast on the Relix channel.  Here is the video.  Tremendous musicianship.  Highly recommended.

Jimmy Herring, Guitar
Kevin Scott, Bass & Vocals

Saw the Dirt Band last night.  They still have it.  Great music.  Makes me proud of what America creates.  The Dirt Band learned Circle from A.P. Carter who must have learned it in the 1920's, and it was probably floating around the ether in the back country when he caught it, but it must go back farther, to the roots of our music.  The Weight, what can I say, it's a classic ... take a load off and listen ....

Well, this is just lovely.  Hypnotic, beautiful music from the Sahel in central Africa, performed by Fatou Seidi Ghali.

Studio whiz Carl Verheyen fronting his own band, tearing it up.  Not nuts about the bass solo, but CV just exudes mastery.

Has anybody given the 'Super Deluxe' remasters of Abbey Road a listen? Is it just me or are they horrible?

I'm done listening to yet another re-marketing of Beatles content.  I just don't feel the need.

But in other news, I am always happy to hear a good cover of "A Change Is Gonna Come," and Aretha tops just about all of them.

This is what I'm listening to right now.  I'm absolutely fascinated

Post-surf instrumental band The Mermen played at wildly eclectic indie/college radio station KFJC's sixtieth anniversary event over the weekend and turned in this set, which is, as per their usual, quite enjoyable.

I never got into Utopia when I was a younger prog enthusiast.  My take on Todd Rundgren is that he's massively talented but not in a way I really "get."
It's kind of like bodybuilding:  I intellectually appreciate the effort and devotion it takes, but the outcome?  Meh.

Not sure I'll ever fully change my views on TR, but this is fun.

Maybe I'm a heel, but I like Christmas music. I don't need to get bent out of shape about people playing it early. I love this album.

It's not Christmas music, but it's as close as I care to get to it:  DAvid Byrne and a choir of hundreds cover David Bowie's "Heroes."
