Music scene. NYC. This band is from LA.  A little amped up, but it's the right flavor.  Probably never see this again in our Disney-fied world.

It was an interesting scene.  Lot's of music, rock, punk, country, rap, salsa, disco ... man! It was a good stew.  Everynight something different.

Good times!

Just watched this!  Really liked it.  Reminds me of back in the old days.  It was a fun time.

Hated the machine rock though.  :)

Time to get your groove on...

Maceo Parker - Shake everything you've got

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (well, just Randy Scruggs, since it's a solo guitar arrangement) covering Joni MItchell, "Both Sides Now."  This literally brought a tear to my eye. Joni's getting old, and so are the rest of us.

Anyway - enjoy.  This is glorious.

Brent Mason - Mellow Midnight

Brent can keep up with the best of them but here is a treatise on playing with feel, space, emotion and tone.

Got anything lighter for fans of light, life, peace, and love?

Afraid not. Darkness, evil, and death are the themes I express... Art is all about experiencing something new, and as such, fans of light should enjoy exploring the 'beauty in darkness.'

If Art is all about experiencing something new, blah blah, fans of death and darkness, I quote you a lyric from a song a wrote about 35 years ago.

Blackness upon blackness,
The dark of the night,
Have you the courage
To step into the light?

Get back to the shadows...  :toothy12:

That brings back memories. I used to play Hot Stuff in a covers band including that solo. I never knew it was Skunk Baxter.

Here is some Clapton, that I have been listening to a lot lately. Been going through a bit of a challenging time.

Sorry you're in a tough spell, stratamania.  Do what you can to take care of yourself and seek out what care you need.  I may be a random internet guy, but I'm happy to be a sympathetic ear.

In re: "Hot Stuff," I read a piece this morning while figuring out who did the guitar work that said Baxter showed up for that session, laid down 8 rhythm tracks and his solo in 4 hours.  What a pro.

Thank you, sir.

Nothing brings me up better than some good Clapton. I hope it does the same for you, Stratamania. Hoping to learn the best comes your way. Another good ear here, too, if you need it.

Arlen Roth makes like Roy Buchanan in this pyrotechnic cover of the Percy Sledge hit, "When A Man Loves A Woman."

Once upon a time Arlen Roth sold learning tape cassettes.  He actually had a phone number in Guitar Player.  I called it, and he told me to swing by his loft in Tribeca, back in the days when it was full of artists.  This had to have been in the early 80's.  I wanted to learn the blues, and he had this blues tape.  Went up to his loft, met his girlfriend, met him.  We had a nice chat and he was very encouraging.  He had a bunch of teles.  I can say he's one of my influences, having memorized that cassette.  I wish I could play like him, but I try.
