Post What Jazz You're Listening To

When I was a spotty lad serving my 4 years in the US Army, my roommate had this album and we kept it in heavy rotation. It's just gorgeous.

Classical Guitarist Jason Vieaux takes on many of Pat Metheny's tunes.
Images of Metheny
John Pizzarelli has an album called Better Days Ahead of Pat Metheny tunes he arranged in the wake of his mother and father's passing due to COVID while in lockdown. It's absolutely beautiful. I happened to see him perform last Saturday night, and his Last Train Home on 7-string solo guitar brought the house down. It was a privilege to be present for such an emotionally committed performance.

Speaking of Pizzarelli, this is the trio he is touring with now. His young pianist, Isiah J. Thomas, is a monster, and his bassist, Michael Karn, is no slouch, either.

Jason Vieaux plays the first 4 parts on the recent Pat Metheny: Road to the Sun recording. Interesting note: he cuts ping pong balls up shapes them as for fingernail tips and super glues them to his finger, and has gotten Pat Metheny into doing it as well.

Probably my favorite Mahavishnu Orchestra tune. Great tune with John McLaughlin, Jean Luc Ponty, and Narada Michael Walden
