Poss EVH Project

I remember seeing Sammy with Montrose, one of the first concerts I ever went to around 1972

Sammy was okay, but the Bullet Boys totally owned this rendition of Rock Candy

...or good.
I guess what this boils down to is those who admit the truth and those who deny it

good is opinion, the fact is they were hits, and you have to judge it by that

I admit VH is a huge talent and has had several sounds, the first 2 were huge commercial sucesses. I also know MOST of the stuff he has done since has been met with little acceptance. Is that people who are tired of his antics? or has he had his day? I think a mind like that is never washed up, the guy is a great guitarist and a great arranger of music. However right now he needs to get over his EGO and move on. Unfortunately he is on a road so many have gone down before.

Most rock bands have a 3 or 4 album of work length before the industry passes them by, the very fact that He evolved for so long proves he is a talent and understands how music changes in teh fickle minds of those who buy it. Last year's Heros are today's joke. To put  out so many hit records as he did is a feat very few do,

But you have to admit, Sammy has been around longer, has put out more records and is producing today what Eddie is having trouble with, something people want to buy.

Van Hagar ran it's course. the time it split up Guitar driven rock was taboo. Bands that had no solos were selling like hotcakes and the day of the ANTI guitar god was at hand. We are moving on from that now and we see more and more bands doing guitar work, the question now is, can Eddie pull it together and make a record that appeals to a aged audience that is his core? Sammy has proved he can. He is very successful.

That is truth, not berating a song as bad, it was a hit was it not?

Music evolves, each and every day, what we went to the prom with is golden oldies a decade later. Your kids will laugh at you one day when a major hit comes on the radio and you are singing it. They will say stuff like old school and back in the day. How you accept their music will tell if you evolved with music.

I'd go with that.  Just being on the charts makes them a hit.  Eddie's "flops" were on the charts too, yet Sammy's were hits?
I give Eddie his, even the ones from the Greatest hits album So lets see, Sammy has a gold album last year, a string of albums since 96 (breakup) and has hit Hit touring band. Eddie has released 3, 2 of which were rehash greatest hits, and has not released anything since 2004.
I think you can see a difference
Like I said, you have to look at the facts, not just your likes and dislikes
good is opinion, the fact is they were hits, and you have to judge it by that
2 things, we are mudding up a good build thread, wish we could transfer this discussion to off topic
second, I do not like Sonny and Cher, but do we deny that without their hits we probably would not have Rock as we have it now?

I don't like the world evolve, it almost gives this impression that its superior. I accept that music changes, inevitably the people who want to get famous will have to change with the times. I for one believe that majority of music that appears on the charts now is piss poor effort and execution. Any band that has ever come out anywhere and has tried to sell you anything at any time anywhere are industry driven, they want to make a living from music.

Some of the music that is not sold at all you HAVE to track down at great effort to find. It's the music that is truly amazing, its almost spiritual to a point. I can't even put into words just how great the performances were. World music is just the best music on earth, its a damn shame you need to be present to understand, I don't think its something you can buy on cd, or record in anyway. Participation is the answer.

well said and a good point, going down to the pier and getting into a musicians circle has a vibe like nothing else, and you find guys from all over the world sharing their rhythms and progressions, but even that is not like going to another culture and being immersed in their vibe. I spent time in the orient and brought a flattop, on weekends after dinner I would go to the park and learned new tunings and scales. as long with new progressions, it was great.
