Poss EVH Project

I have made spacers from wood or used small metal tubing. I don't use springs; I go for a solid mount. It sounds awesome!

Can you still adjust the pickup height? That's what I would still like to be able to accomplish w/the springs.

There were a lot of diff. versions Ed used...this is just a fun "Tribute", not a "Replica".

No doubt.  This is more about the Ed attitude.

BTW, anyone seen Wolfgang's bass?  It got the same treatment with a blue and white color scheme (and superfluous Strat top mount jack).

speakin of which, BRING BACK MICHAEL ANTHONY! i hate to think how much the sound will suffer on their latest album...

Eddie is a egomaniac, proved that when he sold Sammy out, since then his music has gone constantly down hill, Micheal is in a higher order now.
ChickenFoot is a great band.
However EVH had his day when he ruled and we can not take that away from him. I think his greatest work was the Balance disc, sit back and listen to that and you hear the maturity in the music ha has never matched since, it is a landmark, I think it went over most peoples heads though as they want a recreation of the teenage energy that fueled the early albums. What will be written in history about EVH will be great, but us who watched the entire evolution of his carrer know he has thrown out 2 of the best things he ever had, on was Micheal and the other was Sammy.

Sure, you can adjust the pickup height. You take the spacer out & remove material until that side of the pickup is at the height  (and angle)you want! It's time consuming and a royal pain.

Agree with some of that... but his best stuff is the early VH days by far.  The band as a whole had the party thing down and there
was always this "on the edge of exploding" vibe... like a mad scientist experiment.  Not only that, Eddie's tone then, especially
the first album, is legendary.  After the early years his tone became super-processed, chorus-y crap - he lost his tone mojo.

Well...sanded down the back of the neck last night then lemon oiled the raw wood and polished it up...feels super smooth now!

I can give you the tone, and the early raw vibe, But VanHagar had a lot brought to it by Sammy, and a lot of that was maturity in song writing. So they did a more of a pop based hard rock borderline metal thing, it produced the hits. And it made them all filthy rich.
Another thing you have to look at is Sammy has had a string of hits post Van Hagar, and Eddie has had a string of flops.
I wish he would get it together as really loved both early and late Van Halen, What ever has happened in his career he is a great musician well worth the respect.

Sorry for the HiJack

What were Sammy's post VH hits?
Mas Tequila, Marching to Mars to name a couple...

"oh Yeah", "Sexy little thing", "Soap on a rope"......with ChickenFoot... :icon_biggrin:

I almost mentioned Mas Tequila, but I thought we were talking hits.
If it gets a lot of airtime, that usually means is on the charts, so technically it's a hit then..."Hit", doesn't necessarily mean it has to be number one on the charts.... :dontknow:

it start with Mas Tequilla, about 6 months after VH broke up,  then Shag went to his next Cd..........., now chicken foot is a major hit album. They were touring so hard they just called a time out/

Amen

Hagar was making hits long before VH ever existed, they were still in school when Sammy was making hit songs. He still can write hit songs, he didn't need VH to do that... :headbang:
