I'm gonna be in Portland this weekend, hoping to peruse decent guitar shops, don't feel like going down into Beaverton just to see another Guitar Center since they're all the same unless you go to Nashville, Tn.

Any suggestions?

I've never been there, but I've heard good things about this place...

Trade Up Music (http://www.tradeupmusic.com/)has some interesting, lesser-known gear. There tends to be quite a few boutique-y pedals and whatnot in there.

Albert Street is a cool local gem. It might be worth it to go there just for the whole neighborhood experience if you're wanting to kill some time, and maybe grab a drink or some lunch. Mash Tun brews their own beer, and it's just a few blocks away from Trade Up.

Welcome to Portland!

Are you going to be downtown?

Here are a few suggestions:

The better places are not even a shop but some of the local luthiers.

There's a kind-of brilliant used music shop in Beaverton, 5th Avenue music?? I think, when I went there they had several semi-hollows that I'd never seen before, a great used G&L sc-2, and a bunch of resos and other stuff. It's in a strip mall off of hwy 26, it doesn't look like anything. Other people already mentioned the main ones.

There used to be a place downtown, back in the 80's called Captain (something?) music store. I bought my first solid body guitar there a 1976 Les Paul Custom for $135. It was a used guitar store...

I used to live near Beaverton, in Hillsboro... :icon_biggrin:

I've never been there myself, but Pro Guitar Shop is up there.

I like their web videos a lot, and it would be interesting to check it out.

Thanks, great call!

Cool lil shop, lil gems here and there, including some dulcimer & ukulele goodies, lots of pedals.

The brewery was cool too, great tuna melt and cheese steak sammiches!

Awesome, man! Glad you had a good time.  :occasion14:

Alberta is my new neighborhood. I've only been here for about 3 months, but I always have fun when I go into Trade Up. I guess I should have mentioned Portland Fretworks too since it's just down the street a bit. http://www.portlandfretworks.com/  Oh well.
