Photo bucket updated terms suck

Might be time to drop some minimal amount of money on a little server space of your own so you don't have to depend on the miscellaneous clowns out there.

Yep.  cloud share, especially non-secure, is getting pretty cheap.

I'm guessing that photobucket are starting to lose a bit of cash, and thus figured out a 'new revenue stream'.  Some would call it extortion.

I think you should dump-em.  I always thought that photobucket were a bunch of ninnies anyway.

imgur still works well for me. Not sure it's script free, but it certainly seems less intrusive than photobucket and it is $ free.

I'll ask my bass player/band IT guy about Cloud Share.
Sounds like it may be our best option since all of our session files are there also.

I took a look this morning when I saw that in your signature.

Currently, AFAIK all the Photobucket stuff is showing up in my threads, but I guess it's a matter of time till it goes the same way.

If I get a chance I might get them swapped over to somewhere else.

I'm using Flickr, but who knows how long it will be until that goes the way of all flesh, especially now that Verizon has taken over the bulk of US-facing Yahoo properties.

I second Fat Pete's endorsement of Imgur. Very small footprint, fast, light and easy to use. Doesn't take what seems like forever to load up a bunch of crap before you can access your stuff. I'd probably stick with them even if they started charging. (But don't tell them that!)

Is there a way to do that in bulk, or do you have to relink everything one at a time?

I'm pretty sure you'll need to relink individually. The

Does that mean editing every forum post where I posted pictures with the new host's URL?

If so, that aint gonna happen, will look for a new host & use them for future posting.

I'm pretty sure you'll need to relink individually. The link is tied to the host's server address so every link address you posted would need to be readdressed to the new host's servers.

Yep, mine have all died too.  :sad1:

Looks like Photobucket have just shot themselves in the face.  :redflag: Bye-bye Photobucket!

Pretty much one at a time unless you had a couple in a post.

If you had something like in your thread img code.

Code:
http://ads.photosucks.com/user/tony/media/TFS/Parts201.jpg.html

http://ads.photosucks.com/user/tony/media/TFS/Parts202.jpg.html

Then if you keep the image names the same on the new server. You could do a find and replace to change the URL part that has changed.

Code:
http://photorocks.com/user/tony/media/TFS/Parts201.jpg.html

http://photorocks.com/user/tony/media/TFS/Parts202.jpg.html

EDIT this method did not work with Flickr, as the image is given a different name or number. So its one at a time on there.

Either way it is not a trivial amount of work which is what has prevented me so far from getting it done. I have a flickr account I could use which is better currently than Photobucket. I opened it a while ago for the purpose but just logging onto Photobucket nowadays is a challenge in running the gauntlet of ads.

EDIT. I am making a start and am updating my Woodstock Strat thread to start with.

I looked at Imgur, but I think their Ts and Cs said no third party linking.

I really need a better server and then I could host them myself.

I have thousands of pix on PhotoBucket. No problems yet....

According to them, it's when your online storage exceeds 2gb.
I had about 24 pages of pics, so after I got the email from them, I went in a deleted some very old pics hoping it would bring be below 2gb, but I was unsuccessful.
The restriction remains.

Have they got you yet?

Just look at this page, and tell me that Photobucket havn't done a terrible, terrible thing.

Their name will be synonymous with Corporate suicide, bone headed management, the New Coke for the snapchat roulette generation, etc etc.  :laughing8:

They really are behaving as if there are no alternatives.

The historical GOTM gallery posts have now all been updated to imgur hosted images, so archive trawling types like amigarobbo can find some solace there.

There isn't time in GOM's world to update all the old submission threads, sorry.

I'm no Harvard Law School professor, but I think here should be a class action suit. Yes, the Photobucket links are not allowed now for me suddenly also.

I paid for a yearly subscription a couple months back, and now they are changing the terms..thats unheard of, and as far as I know it's illegal from any business practice I have ever heard of to do such.Aren't you supposed to get what you paid for to the duration of the contract?.

I can understand abiding by their( Pissbucket) rules under new contract( understand, but not condone), but buying the service and then having the company pull the rug out from under you seems illegal.

You would have to check what you actually agreed to when you took out the subscription. You probably agreed to something along the lines of them being able to change parts of the agreement at their discretion. It happens all the time.

But what is it that you paid for that you now cannot do?

Perhaps you paid for ad-free browsing and thought it included something else, which it may not have done.

I am in progress now of changing the links I am aware of and hosting elsewhere. (For me Photobucket was a free offering and I am voting with my feet)
