Overused guitar techniques

Kip Winger referred to themselves as the hair band Dream Theater.  Anyway I noticed something awhile back and I thought it was interesting. In the "Headed For A Heartbreak" video Reb Beach plays a guitar that looks exactly like his Suhr signature model. Suhr Guitars didn't come out til the late 90's. John worked at Fender during the 90's. I know he made guitars with Rudy Pensa but these were branded Pensa-Suhr. Reb's guitar was purchased in 1986 from Rudy but it has the regular Suhr logo.  :dontknow:  I don't know. Who cares, guitars are stupid, Reb can't play, John can't build, Kip is creepy and borderline pedophile in certain counties and I don't like dream theater. :headbang1:

I think strumming's used far too much these days.

That, and the use of chords. Way too many guitarists are playing chords these days, I'm tired of it! :icon_jokercolor:
god damn bassist!
Id say something back but after a recent holiday in norway i found out how good the norway army are at hiding, so one might be behind me  :laughing7:
Where in norway were you?

I seriously hope you were joking with that statement. Kip is a genius song writer, composer and producer. Reb is one of the true original shredders to come out the hair metal movement.

I was..........................John is an amazing guitar builder and I don't think guitars are stupid! :laughing7:

Yeah I'm aware of the Ibanez. The one I was referring to looks exactly like his Suhr signature model. No cut out behind the trem and a Suhr headstock shape.

John, Kip, or Pabloman? If it's the latter, then you're missing some real fun.

Incidentally, if you're perfectly objective, judging by the video Pablo linked, it's easy to see why Winger got so much razzing. That's gotta be one of the faggiest things I've seen in some time, hot crybaby chick notwithstanding. In fact, I think I know what she's crying about - she spent several hours getting all fabbed up and there are no guys around.

But, to be fair, it's probably not Winger's fault. Gotta put that one on the producer, and if they did more than one like that, then it's on their manager.

Is it possible that it could be the purple "Olivia Newton John" exercise shirt that Kip was wearing (at 2:03)?  :icon_scratch:

Other than the purple shirt, it's a typical video for an 80s Hair Metal band...

That's part of it, no doubt. The guy is clearly suffering from MDD (Mammary Deficit Disorder) - a rare Freudian diagnosis exclusive to pre-op gender-bender males. Probably figured that given enough smooth albino neck, anorexic body and fast camera work, he can overcome that deficiency. Implants are so obvious, after all...

Sad, but true. And the purple shirt isn't really an anomaly.

They're pretty good reincarnated too. Kip can still sing (see 3:10). I wasn't expecting the rhythm guitar player to start tapping. Not bad. They're pretty lame show-wise, which I could take or leave as long as they sound good.  :icon_thumright:

I seen winger live last year in Glasgow, it was a medium sized venue. Comparing them to the other bands I have whipped out the cash to see including Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Judas Priest, Winger owned in terms of sound. They were tight as hell, the harmonies were spot on and if you closed your eyes you could swear it was 1989. Kip can still sing like he was in his twenties, unlike Rob Halford, David Coverdale or Joe Elliot, with Coverdale being close but not close enough.

I think the thread deserved to be put out of its misery once somebody started showing their love for Winger.  :o :help: :confused4: :icon_scratch: :dontknow:

+1 for strings being overused on guitars! what most people don't realize is that if you play without strings, you'll sound better than 98% of the current popular music. Oh, and its real easy on the fingers, especially if you have a fretless.  :icon_thumright:

98% of popular music doesn't utilize stringed instruments, or genuine singing talent for that matter.

Here's a beep-over to a guy who composes "in the box" for movies - a young guy, he doesn't play instruments at all. It's all samples, combined and manipulated in his computer. Most of the television and movie music is like this, they have no reason to pay an 80-piece orchestra union wages - just find a geek (whoever will work cheaper than the last geek).
