Ordered a CR neck 10/16 and an OFR w/ R3 nut -- mistake?

There is no "ground" shipping to the United Kingdom, what with that big pond in the way and all. Everything goes by air, which is dramatically faster than the crippled geriatric mule trains they use here.

Cagey, if I mess this guitar up, will you fix it and make it right for me?  Yes or no?  :icon_biggrin:

Yes the air part of delivery is always fairly quick. Depending on the carrier and arrangements with customs and how those fees are paid can vary.

The last thing I got from the U.S. Was via USPS, arrived in about 36 hours once shipped to The UK. Then customs processing or awaiting it took another 3 days, then it was with the Royal Mail. By the time I got their notification of what to pay and paid it another 2 days I think. Then the next day the delivery. So almost a week for it to get about 30 miles from where it landed in the UK to where I live.

UPS / DHL tend to be quicker but the customs arrangements are the biggest variable it seems.

I built a fiddle for a guy in Qatar and that one not only got there fast, it was cheap. But, he was in a situation where he could use an APO address for the USPS, so cost-wise here it was like shipping it to the next state over. The UK is another story. Everything I've shipped there has been wildly expensive just to get there, and you're still not done. The recipient has to go through some trouble and take some financial abuse just to receive it.

This is true. I've often passed on buying things due to minimum shipment charges.

Also sometimes via E bay, you can get smaller items that have free shipping somehow. I got a Dixie Dregs CD I think for $5 and free shipping.

Conversely other suppliers want a shipping fee that's prohibitive for the costs of the parts.

Can't blame them too much. It's not particularly difficult to export things from here, but it does require that you physically take the thing to the post office (or your choice of international shipper) and fill out some paperwork, and that means you gotta tie up somebody's time and transport. Can't just have it picked up at your shipping dock like any other box. So, you lose an employee (or yourself) for at least an hour, maybe more while dealing with bureaucratic bullshit. Shipper has to charge for that on top of whatever it costs to put something on a plane for a few thousand miles. It all becomes a major pain in the shorts that's generally not worth it unless you do a ton of overseas business or it's a big-ticket item. So, most just say "continental US (CONUS) only" when it comes to shipping.

I understand the reasons. It just isn't always consistent. How does seomeone sell something for $5 on eBay and send it to me for zero cost ?

Anyway it's easier for us over here for some parts.

I don't know. I suspect something as small as a CD could be sent parcel post so it just looks like mail, in which case it's just a matter of proper postage. Although, I have a friend in Germany who's coming to visit next spring who's stockpiling CDs here to save on shipping and import duties and whatever other myriad taxes European countries impose on their populace to pay for their socialistic tendencies.

Yeah, no doubt. I'm often envious of your easy availability of Thomann's stock. They quite often have things that are a bitch to get here, and at reasonable prices.

Yes I've bought a few things from Thomman. Good prompt service.

The CDs and other small items seem to be listed as Economy Shipping, taking up to about a month to arrive. No good if you need something in a hurry.
