I remember reading something a while back, I believe, that said something about scalloping only being un-DOable on a vintage modern

I am none too sure, but I had been wondering

Correct.  It is not an option of the Vintage Modern.  If you take a look at it and the Warmoth Pro, you'll see the fingerboard is thicker on the Warmoth Pro.  If you tried to scallop a VM, you could go through the fingerboard and in to the neck shaft.  Not cool....
