SO killer.  Seriously, that thing looks great and must sound amazing.

I know you were wavering on it but DEFINITELY finish the head of that padouk neck!  You want it to match the body forever.

that neck looks so killer i decided to buy one.

Sweet!  I've never been a trend setter before :)  The thing feels as good as it looks.  Its smooth and almost waxy feeling.  I was a little concerned that the pearloid binding would conflict with the natural mask on the body, but it actually looks great - to me anyway.

As for doing a phase switch on the stack for power boost, its still something I'm contemplateing, but in split coil mode, the stacks output is very very close to the non-stack in the neck.  Right now I'm just going to play it for a while before I dig back in to it :)

QFT

The color match is too sweet not to lock it in.
Beautiful axe man!  :icon_thumright:

As everyone else has said, great stuff man. Looks really nice. From your rather anguished descriptions building it, I wasn't expecting such an awesome, perfect, polished product. I thought you'd at least have big scratches in the finish from your toddler!! Nice work.
BTW, you've got a super-complicated bridge pup and a super-simple neck pup. Do you find all that bridge pup switching, etc., gives you a lot of useful tones? Or do you tend to just use th e neck all the time anyhow?

Well, I just got it to a playable state on Friday, so I haven't had that much time with it.  When I first plugged it in, I started to suspect I might spend all my time with the neck pickup, but the more I play it, the more I find that the switching on the bridge pickup is very handy.  Honestly I can't hear much difference in the series and parallel options, but the split option defiantly stands out.  It works well.  When I'm playing it clean, I can kick the bridge pickup into split mode and it keeps up pretty well output wise with the neck pickup.  When I pile on the gain, I can give up a little output and get hum canceling in either the series or parallel modes.

I am happy it came out as clean as it did.  Of course when you do the assembly, you know where all the skeletons are, so I know where any flaws may be.  I doubt anyone other than me would notice them, and I'm ok with it because what flaws there are, are completely correctable - No screws through the body, no scratches in the finish, etc.  At some point I will fix the wiring on the pots, and I am going to try to find cream P90 covers that will fit the pickups correctly.  Right now I can't find anywhere on line that sells cream P90 covers for SD pickups.  The ones I got from StewMac are not 100% right and even though my modifications to the covers look "ok", I know they are there and eventually they will bug the ever loving shit out of me :)

just a question: are these noiseless p90s (humbucker in p90 shape?) or REAL p90's? i think the first, that'd explain the series/parallel/single thingy ;)

about the guitar: great build! a real looker is this. like it a lot. what's the material of the neckback?

The neck pickup is a true P90.  A Seymour Duncan Vintage P90 to be exact.  The bridge pickup is a SD P90 Stack, which is a humbucking type of setup.  All though as I understand it from people who know more about pickups than I do that it uses coils of different sizes in an out of phase arrangement to get the hum canceled without getting an actual humbucking sound.

The neck is padouk.  Its just about the perfect shade to match the body, which I was very happy about!

sweet....I love the natural binding.  Do you finish that your self?  I have always been afraid to try a natural binding for fear of color leaching under the masking.  it there a special process when doing this??

such a beauty! Rather reminds me of a Hamer. Looks great. Strap knob is a bit finky for me...but hwo cares!
Great Guit!
