Next L5S, assembly started...

I like the match of the mahogany on the body and neck, besides it has Brazilian Rosewood which is hard to come by these days.  I like it!  Nice score.

Here we go... L5S body with mahogany/Brazilian Rosewood neck:

Same L5S with the all Indian Rosewood neck:

Does anyone know why Warmoth stopped making this body? Would love to see more (semi)hollow body offerings. Something along the lines of a 335, or a 339, or a Casino, or a Gretsch 6120 DC, or a Hofner Verythin...

A man can dream, can't he?  :glasses10:

To answer your question directly: it was a Gibson design, and a couple years ago they made it clear that nobody should make guitar bodies that look like theirs unless they want to end up in court. Bad mistake on their part if you ask me, but to be fair, they're not really known for making good business decisions.

As an aside, that was not a semi-hollow design. The body the OP used was a solid body that had been chambered, which allowed for that F-hole. Normally, an L5S is a solid body. You can see one in my sig, or if you want greater detail, the build thread is here.

I was aware it was a Gibson design, but thought they had perhaps licensed it, as with the Fender designs. (BTW, no issues with the LP-inspired models?) FWIW, I agree with your assessment of G's business decisions.

Didn't realize that. I'll go back and review your build thread; read it a while ago.

You'll notice there are no more LPs in the designer or showcase, either. Warmoth designed some unique shapes to take their place, which could be described as "LP inspired" (they'd probably rather call them "single cutaway"), but they're just enough different from the original silhouette that Gibson can't bitch.

Collings has a few "LP-inspired" bodies as well (even double cutaway). They also have some 33X-inspired models that set the saliva to flowing...
