New video: Versatility shootout Seymour Duncan 78 vs JB

The first mod I ever did (assuming tying a sock around the neck doesn’t count) was swapping to a JB/Jazz

The 78 sounds nice though. Very versatile.

I think the only thing he missed was playing for 5 minutes straight with one pickup, and then changing to the other pickup but playing different riffs and having a wildly different tone and playing style. That always kills me. There’s no A/B testing anything. YouTube guitarists do that nonsense all the time!
All of these things will be taken into consideration, I am sure.

Aaron puts himself out there. We should all be grateful for that. Rule number one: YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB. That being said, the telecaster offers many tones. Great clean tones!

Well wishes and on to new and improved topics / products! Most importantly, Thank you all for your continued support of the great turtle. Fun video got the people going! Now let's make some more custom guitars! Pickin' up where we left off yesterday.

'Just ordered a 78 with a nickle cover to replace the JB in my ESP EC. I like the JB, but not in that guitar.
It also had a '59 in the neck position that just did not sound good to me in that guitar, so I replaced it years ago with a SH-2 "Jazz", which turned out to be perfect.
So I'll have a SH-4 "JB" with nickle cover for sale soon if anyone is interested.

Another data point: Since doing this video a couple years ago I have had the chance to compare the 78's to the Slash 2.0. Without a doubt the 78 has more bass and highs, and is more scooped in the mids. The Slash 2.0 has less bass, and more upper mid content. At this point in my journey I have mostly moved on from the JB, towards lower output pickups.

But the key is always to get the right pickup for the guitar, and what works in one doesn't always work in another.

So wierd....it's almost as if there are other factors that affect the sound of an electric guitar besides the pickups. 🤨
