Boy, did you guys screw up passing on this deal. Chambered one-piece black korina back, carved bookmatched flamed black korina top, Gotoh 510 bridge and electronics included, all the comfort cutouts... this thing is pure sex. Finish is miles away from Tonar-quality, and the electronics may need to be tossed, but I can fix all that; it's just lacquer and pots/switches are cheap. So, am I happy? No. I'm ecstatic! LOL!

I'd show you pictures, but there's nothing changed from what he shows in the ad at the link, which goes above and beyond the call of duty in honesty. It was well-packed, so there are no new flaws.

Now I gotta figure out what kind of neck to put on it. I have several laying around just rotting... an ebony over maple Carvin that's like new but needs a finish, a slightly used Warmoth Vintage Modern Indian rosewood over mahogany that I think has been oiled, and a like new Warmoth Pro ebony over walnut with a clear gloss. I also have an ebony over bubinga neck that has been slated to mate with a mahogany body. Maybe that would work better here, and put the walnut neck on the mahogany? Or, I could put the body in the closet and wait until I can get a different neck, if enough people think something other than what I've listed would be better. Any thoughts? I've never dealt with korina before.

Yesss! I'm glad someone on the forum picked it up :icon_thumright: I wanted it so bad, but just don't have the money and dont need a 3rd build to deal with (or do I? :laughing7:)

I think wenge is the best thing ever for BK, but I bet that Ebony/Walnut one would look fantastic!

Well, the walnut neck is nice piece, but it is dark, so I don't know that it matches up aesthetically with the korina. If I were doing it from scratch, I'd think an ebony over goncalo alves neck would match up the best appearance- and tone-wise. Then again, I never hear anything but great things about the wenge necks. But, then there's always that tone thing... I hate to buy another neck when I've got necks laying around, but it also doesn't make sense to match up the wrong things just because you have them on hand.

On the plus side, it's a good problem to have <grin>

Very nice! I thought about it for a while, but I'm not playing nearly as much electric guitar lately so I figured it would be lost on me. Can't wait to see what it turns into!

Neither can I <grin>

I wasn't looking for such a thing, and had no serious plans for one because they're naturally expensive, and this one has some expensive adders to it. I'd have probably never bought one if Dave hadn't been practically giving this one away. It's going to take some work, but I just know it's going to be worth it.

Hanging out on this forum has me lusty. Everybody builds such nice stuff, and I want it all! I mean, before Warmoth, who ever heard of wanting a Tele? They were just something you settled for <grin>

All my life, I've been basically a one-guitar kind of guy. If I couldn't do something with what I had, I could at least get close enough for Schlitz and grins.

The problem, Your Immensness, is that all they do with those twanger thingys is play ork 'n' orr!

Now that I can't play worth spit, I've got the best guitars I've ever owned, and I can't seem to get enough of them.

Same with the computers. Back when I was a programmer, all I had to work with more often than not were rag rides. Now that I don't do that anymore, I've got the machines of doom that if they'd existed back then I'd have given my left nut for <grin>

Glad you like it Cagey, it's a gorgeous hunk o' wood, but I really need a new amp more than another humbucker guitar, which, once my Bassman sale (hopefully) goes through next Wednesday, will be mine!

I understand. Sometimes you gotta rob Peter to pay Paul when it comes to resolving GAS problems. I was just talking about that last night with an old buddy. Old Fender blackfaces used to be like roaches in Detroit - they were everywhere. Sometimes you could get one for the price of a favor, because they were just a commodity. Get another one tomorrow for next to nothing if it turned out you needed it. Now amps we used to pass around for $50 - $100 to upgrade something else go for $1,000 even if they need work.

If I remember correctly, you're looking at an Egnator, right? He's a Detroit boy. Has done some fine work. I rarely ever see a bad word about his stuff, and a LOT of good words. Haven't played one yet myself, but I'd buy one sight-unseen just based on what I've read and heard.
